Steam Price vs. Physical Store Price
Literally every store (except for Gamestop) has Skyrim Legendary Edition available for around 39.99. Why is Steam 20 dollars more expensive? Wasn't the point of Steam to have the games cheaper, with more frequent sales?

Here are a few examples:

Seriously, why should the physical version be about 33% cheaper than the digital version?? It makes no sense at all! GameStop is the ONLY place with the price tag for Legendary Edition being the same as Steam's, BUT ONLY FOR THE PC VERSION. Which is actually a Steam download code! The Legendary Editions for PS3 and Xbox 360 are both 39.99 new

Steam has to change the price of the Legendary Edition to AT LEAST match everywhere else. I want Skyrim, but I don't want the physical version, and I DEFINITELY don't want to pay 20 bucks more than I should.

My opinion is wait for sale.
Being gouged on the price is the least of your worries. How about paying higher than retail prices for the pleasure of playing a game you do not own but merely play at the discretion of someone else?

That would be crazy, huh?
tiredofpain, what game are you referring to??
just pay for the anthology and get everything for only $70

Who cares, just buy it wherever you want.
Shocks, I'm not even sure if you read the entirety of my post. Or if you did, you missed the point by a mile. My question isn't "What should I do, buy?" It's "What do you think about the fact that there is a pretty big price difference, with Steam being the expensive option? Do you think they should change that?"
then get the games from the shop,

wher im from steam games are cheeper then most store games and there easyer to get, it all matters on wher you are and what your willin to pay
For the most part, Steam games ARE cheaper than the physical, in-store counterparts. But Skyrim Legendary Edition is one game on Steam that's just overpriced compared to the physical version. Not only that, but I'm not asking what you think I should do, but what do you think of the fact that there is a price difference as big as that?

i get all my games from the store, i cant stand not having a disk, and i could care less about price of a game i know ill play, if i dont think ill like it i wait till a friend buys it and just play at his house to see if i even want to get it

Nooooo, the point of Steam was to make Valve a ton of money.

They do that by offering a service and a store. Prices within the store are reflective of the value Steam thinks they add. I mean its pretty basic stuff here. Its why milk is ridiculously priced in a convinience store compared to a grocery store - its the same ♥♥♥♥, but customers value what each retailer offers *around* the product differently.

Hell, its why Amazon still charges full damn price for the ebook version of paperbooks (especially for new releases).

High prices don't always make more money for the seller, look at the OP and how reluctant he is to buy. I don't think Steam set the price alone, more likely they have some sort of agreement or the publisher sets the price and Steam gets a cut. In that case, the publisher probably decided that the game should go on sale or be discounted in those physical stores, but not Steam. Skyrim goes on sale regularly on Steam so it just depends on the timing.

Yeah most games are cheaper on Steam, but I would actually pay more, and have, for games just to be on Steam. Steam has saved me a lot of money because I'm always losing disks or they get scratched up. Since I installed Steam, I've had to redownload all my games twice, due to failure of a HD and a computer change. Without Steam, I'd have to rebuy hundreds of dollars worth of games so I'm willing to pay more for the service.
The Elder Scrolls: Anthology.
$59.99 from Amazon.

Includes:
The Elder Scrolls: Arena
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind + Tribunal & Bloodmoon Expansion Packs + Elder Scrolls Construction Set
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY + All DLC
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim + All DLC
Large Maps of Tamriel
+ Steam Download Code for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, if you want the digital versions of the games.

Note: Arena and Daggerfall are available digitally for free from Bethesda's website.
The physical version requires you to go to the shops.

Which means you have to leave the house.

Which means no.
^^ lol
I can't stand leaving the house as well. But I bought a hybrid so I didn't have to get milked for gas/petro.

As for the Amazon e-book thing.. I hate that BS as well.. although they did have to transition it from physical to digital.. (unless the publisher does that), just best to buy audio books online.. :P

Also, why are digital movies/series the same price online (iTunes) as they are in the store? I do hate the Amazon streaming service, although Netflix has gotten better, not as much disconnects on my TV as before.

It's the blind faith that people put into valve and steam which makes this happen. Vote with your wallet and always go the cheaper option, as long as it's a legitimate store. Steam is good for buying bargain bin games, and perhaps indie/early access titles if that's your thing.

I'm curious, why don't you want a physical version? It's highly unlikely, but you never know what can happen to steam. Always better off with a physical version of your games imo. If somehow steam went out of buisness, you can say goodbye to all your digital downloads. Any physical version of skyrim you buy, will need steam to run at the moment. As long as you look after them, physical copies in my opinion are a much better option.
