Skyrim Game In Peril: Please Help...
Okay so I have been researching this to no end over the last few weeks and tried everything I have read and can think of to no avail. So if anyone has any further insight into this case, I would most appreciate it as I risk losing my lvl 44 and girlfriend's lvl 50 characters.

PROBLEM: Skyrim loads fine and plays fine for roughly a minute to 2 minutes. After this short length of time, no matter what I'm doing, where I'm at, I try to save via the pause menu and get instant crash to desktop. This happens for both our characters as I've said and has only been prevalent in the last month or so.

Yes I have mods installed and have pretty much since the game launched. However, I have done extensive research into conflicts, I use BOSS, so I don't see how it could be mod related. I have since started a new character for testing purposes and the problem doesn't exist as of now with those fresh characters.

I have done the Skyrim Save Cleaning Guide on both our character's saves and thought briefly that it might have fixed it but of course, the problem returned for both. After the save cleaning Guide I played for about a half hour and saved throughout just fine. Played the next day and the problem is back.

I have also tried the loading older save from when issue wasn't present, typing "player.kill", load glitched save, done the same and either I'm doing it wrong or it simply isn't working.

Please, if anyone has any thoughts on the matter that would be fantastic. I'm mainly afraid the saves are just too corrupted or something to function properly or there is something I am missing.

Thanks!

Have you uninstalled any mods which you were using on earlier saves? I know that can lead to some pretty bad up-screwing of save games.

I mean, yeah there has been some shifting around of a few of them here and there, mostly texture mods. But for the most part, I've had the same ones installed for a little while and haven't really added or taken many away lately that I can think of, since I've just about got the game to look and play to my ideal preferences. I can post mod list a little later today if that would help at all.

Mod list might help, as well as exactly which mods have been installed or removed since this started. Skyrim has been very stable for me, but in Oblivion I used to have some crashes that would actually put some relevant information in the Windows event viewer.

I would also recommend saving off your Skyrim user directory (with your saves) before making any further changes, so at least you'll have a backup. Also, I'm not sure if BOSS can really completely avoid problems. I have to check if I have an old version, but i have almost a dozen mods that BOSS doesn't even recognize, and even then it just tries its best to sort the load order anyway.

Since this involves saving, and you say it doesnt happen on new characters, I would be very skeptical of a mod which added content to your older games. Usually the game will warn you when you load a save for which content is no longer installed, but the fact it's erroring out when saving may be a clue to someone more knowledgable than I.
