There is a pinned topic called "Mods to share" in this forum. Others are likely to consider this as a duplicate thread.

I am personally a fan of The Doctor and Tardis, so I might visit the mod for some less serious gameplay purposes.

HiAlgoBoost - Dramatically improves the game experiences using .dlls to manipulate framerates - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15123/?

Realistic Lighting Overhaul - No performance overhead/post-processing - Yields a much more immersive and realistic lighting environment with no noticeable strain on resources at all - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30450/?

Mod Organizer - The ulitmate in flexibility, customizeable load and ini sets, integration with BOSS/SKSE/etc, highly detailed options and, due to virtualization, no possible chance of overwriting data files or screwing up your install if used appropriately, custom Sets can be set to only display the saves created with them, etc.. In short - Best Mod Manager Ever - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/1334/? (Note: Easy to use if your familiar with modding Bethesda games. If not, then walk through all the tutorials and tips. Watch a few vids and you'll be off and running in no time.)

OBIS is a good mod if you want extra bandits at the forts and caves you clear. Watch out for some mods on Nexus as here they can really mess up your game.

Just a comment - It's not the mods on Nexus that will mess up player's games - It's the players rushing to install mods who either don't know what they're doing or haven't read the mod's documentation fully. :D

Nexus is a surprisingly well-organized and well-administered site, given the fact that it has so much content flying around on it. Players just have to take sensible precautions and learn about how mods effect the game and what troublesome sorts of mods to be extra-careful with. Modding is serious business....

I did a lot of Oblivion modding at one point. With that experience, I have to say that, being a new Skyrim player, using "Mod Organizer" to manage my mods gives me a lot of peace of mind. It's more difficult to use than NMM or Steam, but it's much less of a hassle and much, much, more flexible, in the end. Plus, it's very safe, with no worries about corrupting the original install.
