No. I always join the DB. The first thing I do in Oblivion is murder someone out the Skooma den so that I get recruited. Well, not always, I have these characters that have to stay good no matter what, but I never destroy them.

In Skyrim, you kill Astrid when you wake up in that fancy shack of hers.

I try to take them out if I'm a "good" character. Which is hard because you have to "murder" Grelod before you get the chance to do it. There is no rule you have to participate in every faction. I don't know why some people think you do.

There are three options:
1) Be a weenie and join the DB because you think you're supposed to
2) Kill Grelod and then wipe out the DB
3) Don't kill Grelod and go on your merry way

Yes I got rid of them when Astrid kidnapped me and then demanded I choose one of her prisoners to kill. On top of that she is always sending assassins to try and kill me. As for Grelod she deserves to die the way she treats the orphans.

Depends, I have played all three ways. Not ever killing Grelod, kill Grelod and wipe them out, or just join. Not sure how I'll play this current build, though. He's a warrior, but I'd love to see him try to do this questline without any stealth skills, or even better, without directly killing most people himself. He's supposed to do most of the questlines as I'm testing mods for bugs.

On one character I killed them, but I didn't really like not being able to kill the emporer.

I always go Empire.. so.. Brotherhood doesn't seem like a wise choice. I kill them.

They kidnapped the harbinger of the companions and thought they can force him to do what they want by threatening him with their tiny daggers.
