Why I Hate Serana
Single most annoying follower in any of the TES games, rivaled only by the Adoring Fan. Here's why:

1) She is forced upon you whether you want her or not. Unlike other forced followers (Farkas for example, etc.) she is stuck with you for most of the Dawnguard storyline, not just for a single quest.

2) You can't even make her wait. This is what irritated me the most. She is going to follow you around whether you want it or not, and if you ask her to wait she'll give you a stupid sarcastic reply. Doesn't matter if you're not in a Dawnguard quest, she'll still tag along.

3) You can't make her do anything. The standard option of "I want you to do something" just isn't there. Her sole purpose is to follow you around.

4) She makes you lead. She knows the way to the castle, but you have to find it yourself. She knows the way through the castle, but you have to find the way through it yourself. All she can do is follow you and complain about it.

5) The dialog options that are available as you go through the Dawnguard storyline make it seem as if you are forming a close friendship. WTF? She's a bloodthirsty vampire and probably cannibal, and you're a Dawnguard member sworn to rid the world of vampires. Why the hell would you be friends?

6) Whiny chick with daddy issues. Sure it's a twist on the stereotype, but it's still the stereotype. You're an immortal vampire lord, stop whining about the weather and your relationship with your father! Sheesh.

I think shes annoying becuase she randomly walks around and gets stuck in doors.

Im glad the follower dispearing glitch happened to her.

1-3 are decent points. 4-6 are nothing but opinion. In regards to 4, what does it matter unless you have quest markers turned off? Skyrim leads you around like a rat in a maze by default. I'd complain about being led too much by default. Thankfully quest markers can be disabled.

*I* care. I care that there's one 'N' in anyone and two 'L's' in really.

If Serana led the way, people would be frustrated that they can't get on with other stuff (like when Barbas is taking you to Vile's place).

4 is actually a very good point - its a cliche in games. To the point that its annoying. How many escort quests are there where the guy you're escorting is perfectly content to follow you around half the world until you decide to take him where he wants to go, rather than having *you* follow him and provide support along the way - that's seperate from the 'I'm suicidally depressed and so will attack anything that comes into sight in the hope of death's sweet release' problem.

Yes, Skyrim provides too much hand-holding. But the one point where it would be *justified* they back away.

Gee, you mean that some quests shouldn't be taken on until you're actually ready to do them? That some NPC's might have agendas of their own and want the player to accomodate *them*? That, maybe, you're just one person in a world of people rather than the only person in a world of zimbies.

Actually if Serana led you could ignore her and go elsewhere, just like with Barbas.

As for #5 - Bethesda doesn't do western-style RPG's anymore. They do JRPG's with a western aesthetic.

1) She is forced the same way as any other follower on this game, when the quest requires their presence for a script event. And is not all the quests. I have a DG main quest line here, and I can send her home anytime.

2) You are very wrong, you can make her wait, just that you can't when she is in one of that quests that requires her presence.

3) You should know that you can command any follower to do something, if you hold E (interact buttom) while targeting them. If she is not doing so, because she still don't trust you, like she make it clear with the dialog.

4) That is why they are followers, they follow. "She knows the way to the castle", I believe that you are in one of that main quest lines, well, she don't know everything about that part of it, as she explains through dialog.

And I will stop here, the rest is just you doing more whining and nitpicking, just to find reasons to hate more.

(That was the diplomatic version of my comment. My original word was 'whining'...)

She is forced on you three times during the story line. The first time is when you first find her, and she tells you to take her home to daddy. The next time is when you go search for the Moth Priest, and she is forced on you again. The last time is when you show up at castle the second time, then she is forced on you UNTIL THE VERY END of the storyline! There's no way to dump her. I've tried. I cannot dismiss her, I cannot even make her wait.

It may be different if you choose the vampire/cannibal path, but it's what I saw when I played on the Dawnguard side.

Interesting, I did not know that.
