Has anyone noticed...
That while graphics in Skyrim are far superior to the other TES games its overall content has deminished. I recently went back and Played through Oblivion (Vanilla) and after that I went back and played through Morrowind (also vanilla) (this has been a multiple week project). I have found that I overall enjoyed both Morrowind and Oblivion better.
Now don't get me wrong Ihave put 90+ hours into Skyrim so I am not saying I did not enjoy it. However, when I did play it I hadn't played Oblivion or Morrowind in years so I had no comparison point. Now that I have I find, Skyrim failed to be that immersive. It felt like an A to B run around game even though is freeworld and you dont have to do the main quest it still feels like a C to D game. Not to say other games and the other TES games aren't that way they are. However, I didn't get that feeling because I suppose i was more drawn into them. For example I love Morrowind not having a compass that tells you magically where everything is even if its in an old forgotten cave that nobody knows where it is at. Having to ask, and interact, and think, and even sitting there reading your journal going back and forth making sure you didn't miss anything.
Overall my point is Skyrim was done very well and I will probably be playing it again (a ranger type and pure no armor assasin type rule with stealth). Put I feel progressively TES games get simpler story and content wise while becoming more powerful in terms of graphics. And this scares me that whenever we do get TES:VI that it will further slip down this path.
But, I could go on a tyraid about most game companies doing this... Making games so simple and... limited challenge now... Have... To... Stop..
