Most efficient path to dragon armor?

Am I crazy or is light armor the more efficient way to get to dragon armor?

Doesn't matter what you wear it does not help you, you need to get smithing up to 100 to make Dragon armor.

It costs 1 less perk to get from steel to dragon if you use the left light armour path yes, but it only benefits those who want to level up to 100 fast in smithing and be able to make dragon armour. Pointless really early on as it just makes you overpowered. The developers probably didn't care if the paths were an equal number as its meant to be levelled up gradually as you progress in the game.

FWIW, it may not be that different simply because (assuming you don't mind going into Dwemer ruins to stock up) Dwemer metal is far more abundant than malachite, moonstone etc, and you can make Dwarven bows or arrows/crossbow bolts with pretty minimal materials, so I've generally found that (assuming I don't want to buy much of my smithing material) it's always worth getting the Dwarven smithing perk even though I'm pretty much only interested in the light side of the tree apart from that, assuming I want to level up reasonably quickly and/or actually just want loads of Dwarven arrows/bolts. I've never bothered making dragon armour, though, I've only bothered unlocking the perk on one character, mainly because I wanted to make dragonbone arrows. I don't like the look of it, and tbh I've never found I've needed anything much above a set of vampire leather armour improved as much as I can.

Yes, the left hand side of the Smithing tree is fastest to get to dragon armor. It's not crazy at all, since the best light armor is dragon scale, but the best heavy armor IS NOT dragon bone. If you wear heavy armor then the most efficient route is to stop at daedric (unless you have Ancient Knowledge, then you can hit the armor cap very quickly with Dwarven smithing).

A full set of dragonplate armor has a base rating of 136. A full set of daedric armor has a base rating of 144. Dragonplate also starts showing up in leveled lists earlier.

I have no idea why the Smithing perk tree is the way it is.

It's also lighter than Daedric armor, and the defense difference is negligible.

So basically Deadric Armour is the best armour in the game. Should really have been Dragonscale in the Light Armor at 90 and Dragonplate in the heavy side at 90, then made the 100 Deadric. Its also much easier to make Dragon armour as the raw ingredients are much easier to get hold of.

I'd like to point out, there are players who care about how their armor looks too. Personally, I hated the look of ebony and daedric armor ( I know, I know. Hate me.) I really like the look of the Dragonplate however, and it's still a viable late-game armor, only being a few points lower defense value than daedric. Plus, I always try to shoot for a 500 total armor rating. Anything higher than that, in my opinion, is welcome but unnecessary. Full sets of Ebony, Daedric, and Dragon armors can easily reach that threshhold. But, I digress.... in the end, all that matters is the player's personal preference.

I took the Light side but still progressed on the Heavy side to get Ebony arrows and the ability to increase smithing skills. Once I got to Dragon I decided to complete both sides of the tree. I now have Dragonsteel arrows and Dragonscale armour. My followers get the Ebony arrows now.

I think if you give your follower just 1 arrow of any type, they keep using those types of arrows all the time, glitch in the game apparently. Give them 1 dragon arrow and they'll use that all the time to kill stuff and it wont disapear from their inventory, also most likely you'll find 1 or 2 on dead bodies that they've arrowed so can build up more dragon arrows.

That does work, but only if they aren't also using a bow you gave them. It has to be their default bow.
