Bring up the actor in the object list...then click once on the actor to highlight it, then press:
EDIT
ALT + F4.
CTRL + F4 (thanks for reminding me guys) prompt appears: ''Export face gen data?'', click OK to confirm. Should fix it with any luck :)
I did this when I made a Khajiit NPC of my Character for my Gf. I ran into trouble; the scars and stripes of the face gen data wasn't exporting to the NPC actor in-game. So I asked around and a friend showed me a link to a solution (unfortunately, I cannot find it at present)
As I can best recall what I did, was entered showracemenu in the console in game, Then made my face gen data, using the in-game presets. I SAVED this and I cannot for the life of me remember what I pressed to save it. This is where I forget what the procedure is....I will try to find it and report back unless you find out ok :)
Once I had named a few saved presets, I went back into Creation Kit, then there's a box on the FaceGen Data TAB that says 'IMPORT'. Click this, then open the file path to the saved data presets done in showracemenu.
click OK, and it will import the data with no more grey face. Silly Bethesda leaving broken software for us to have to sort out.. pshh! BOO!
If you have Appachii hair on NCPs you have to change their set weight from 50 to set weight = 100 by console command.
