What build kept you interested the longest?
Cant seem to play a character past level 10ish before losing interest and wanting to try something new. Not that im getting BORED with skyrim, just it seems whenever im one class after 10 or so levels i want to be another.

So what held your interest the longest ?

A mixed class character build.

I've always gone for a barbarian type focusing on armour, 1 & 2 handed and archery. I like the idea of a stealthy sneak assasin type so i might try another run through later on with that. Magic doesn't do it for me.
Magic isn't my fav , but it does have it's uses at times. Enough that any build i create will use some.

I guess this would be for those who have created many charactrers...and get bored easily LOL...

I have played a lot and have only really stuck with my Khajiit. The main reason for this is because he has grown on me..like he is my avatar for Skyrim, I could see myself being no other character. The others just don't appeal to me, so I guess I'm happy with who I chose to play as.

Perhaps my next character, if I ever make another, would be a Nord. Maybe I'll break my 20+ years convention and go female, who knows...

dagger stealth assassin + illusion and a little conjuration when things go wrong. For crafting only alchemy, i use the gear i find and buy soul gems to refill wepons that require them. That gives me always fun and not using smithing and enchanting prevents the ultra powerfull builds.

Thus being said, i think it's crucial to make up a story before character creation, focusing on what you like&dislike, motivations and goals. That really makes a difference more than stats.

Use a race in an atypical way. If playing Khajiit, resist the sneaky thief build. If doing an Altmer, resist magic. I know, weird, but it makes gameplay more interesting, especially if you have to do the build from the bottom up.

Shake up the questlines. Play a mage who does the Companions, or a warrior doing the Thieves Guild.

I also like limiting crafting to just one of the three skills, and using only what I find. My current build is using only smithing, but only to make arrows, the supplies for his Hearthfire home, and improving the equipment he does find. I have also done alchemy only and enchanting only builds. Neither are severely overpowered by themselves. It's when you combine the skills that can get you in trouble with becoming over-powered. Unless you like that sort of gameplay, Overpowered = bored.

My current build was questing from level 1, and has spent no time power-leveling, only leveling skills through training or actual use of the skill through gameplay. Lol, no standing in a mudcrab pond letting mudcrabs whack me for 20 minutes to level up heavy armor and restoration.

This is what you do.

Make a Khajiit.

Play with bows and sneak.

You'll never want to play another class again.

khajit in heavy armour doing punch attacks
orc in heavy armour using 1 handed main, restoration off hand - wards, healing, turn undead etc.. great fun for mages guild and dawnguard
redguard in medium armour with 2 hander and poisons / potions / food
argonian with archery, alteration, sneak until the archery perks & ilusion until silent casting
khajit as above but with dual wield daggers instead of archery - ended up somewhat overpowered though
altmer, heavy illusion build with side order in destruction - just using traps from destruction - fearing enemies into traps etc..
breton hunter build - heavy on archery and conjuration, medium armour as a side (too powerful if you use alteration for defence)
bosmer super thief, pushing non combat skills like pick pocket, barter etc.. It makes you a little underpowered in combat, but you do great wealth wise.

My favorite is a bard who is a descendant of Ragnar the Red, who goes berserk whenever he hears another bard sing that disrespectful song about his ancestor. He's earned a lot of jail time for that, but he's pretty good with his fists.

I prefer mages because they have so many options. The more skills you have to use, the more interesting the character. IMHO. For a warrior it's all swing, block, swing, block, lather, rinse, repeat. But a mage takes a bit more doing. You have five schools of magic plus two magical crafting skills. You don't just wade into a fight, you have to prepare yourself first with an armor spell and perhaps a summons. And a lot of your spells interact with the non-magical skills, such as Bound Weapons and Muffle. A well rounded mage can easily end up with nine or ten primary skills.

I played on and off without mods. With mods, this game is epic and very immersive.

You need:

Frostfall
Realistic needs and diseases
Wet and Cold
Hunterborn (adds animals and realistic animal behaviour)

at the least.

Of course Realistic ENB and ALL THE OPTIONAL MODS LISTED (for graphics) is a must.
