Skyrim V.S. Oblivion
I would like to ask, What are some of the pros and cons of Oblivion, and some of Skyrim? Please DO NOT say: "I like [Skyrim/oblivion] better" without listing REASONS. Thanks for posting.

Obviously a con for Oblivion was the graphics, but I don't really care. Oblivion seemed to focus more on skill development and storytelling, while Skyrim would focus on the development of Graphics, gameplay, and combat mechanics.

Oblivion has a serious leveling problem, in that everything scales to the player's level. You soon get to the point where roadside bandits are wearing glass and ebony armor. It's kind of silly. I like to feel that my character is making progress, and becoming stronger, but when everything levels with you it seems like you're not getting ahead.

But some people like it, so to each their own.

I personally like Skyrim much better. (graphics aside) Oblivion is good, but I find that closing the gates is ridiculously tedious, and it seems to me that Skyrim has more interesting quests, and they seem easier to find. The homes seem ridiculously expensive too.
And on a very personal note, Oblivion doesn't allow dual-wielding without mods. That's all but a dealbreaker for me.

Where the guy robbing you in the middle of nowhere is carrying armor and weapons that would allow him to live like a king for the rest of his life if he sold them.

Instead he's standing out in the woods trying to strongarm a hundred gold from you.

the big difference is one game breaking enchant called Chameleon with 100% you can't be hit and its so easy to get and will make the game boring.

I think both are equally fun games to play. Both are riddled with problems, but each is still a very enjoyable experience, especially if you roleplay, get involved and immersed, and don't bellyache over every little detail

Good point, but it's hard to get to the Enchanting place, I think it's ridicously hard to get to the Arcane University. I wish Skyrim had Spellmaking, though. I wished Skyrim had that the SECOND I knew it didn't.

I wish Skyrim had hand to hand perks. That was my favorite way of fighting in past games, like a monk.

I've said this in another thread, but my impression is that Skyrim has better gameplay while Oblivion has better (or at least more unique) quest design.

I agree with Calypsx. Hand to hand perks would be a nice add to the game.

The more I read these "Oblivion VS Skyrim" posts the more I think that I was the only one who enjoyed closing the Oblivion gates. I feel so alone.

I really enjoyed that, too, but my favorite Oblivion feature was the quest design.

Once I looked for a mod that added Oblivion gates to close.

That would be a good thing. In oblivion, martial arts (Hand to Hand) COULD level, you could block with your hands, too. That would be a nice mod. I'll look into that!

Like most loved both games but I really preffered the Oblivion Thieves Guild quest, more Robin Hood, rob from the rich and give to the poor where as the Skyrim theives guild are nothing but cheap thugs.

Hello! Hey, I liked closing Oblivion Gates too, once I got my system down pat. But anyway, Incunabulum's post inspired me to write this. Ahem.

"Where the person mugging you in the middle of New York City is wielding a fancy automatic pistol and has lots of extra clips ready for reload, that would allow him to live well for a week or so if he just sold them. But instead, he's mugging you in a dark alley, demanding that you give him all of your valuables." ;-)
