and is one of the most useless items besides the broom, fork , etc..

In morrowind you can act like a rat and start you thief career stealing the silver spoons and forks of the good houses (in Balmora xD) .

There is a mod that places apple trees behind the meadery in Whiterun. You can pick and eat them:) I forget the name of the mod though.

I don't think food items are useless at all. I have my character eat 3 meals a day. I also pack eating utensils and cooking gear; meaning that I have to pack realistically to be on the road. It's all about roleplaying.

Southern High Rock, Elsweyr or even Summerset Isle too. Merchant and transport ships still make the run from there to Windhelm, Dawnstar and Solitude.

Get hearthfire, build a house, and a garden outside. plant an apple inthe mound. a green apple will grow a green apple tree. Ared apple will grow a red apple tree. If you select a greenhouse as an addon, you can grow them inside instead. Heartfire allowed the garden thing but nevermodified the game to have them appear in the enviroment.
