Though if you really wanted an interesting Archer experience I'd recommand looking up Skyrim Redone on the nexus, it is a gameplay/perk overhual. One of the changes is Instead of the current Archery perk tree it changes it to have three different branches, one for short bows, one for long bows, and one for crossbows. The short bow tree increases mobilty and increases damage done on an enemy when you flank them which introduces a pretty fast paced combat dynamic. The long bow tree focuses on sniping from a distance which is good if you wanted to play the game as a sniper sort of thing. The crossbow tree involves modding your crossbows and bolts, you can make it so your crossbow has increased fire rate but reduced damage or does double damage to blocking enemies but fires slower. You can also make barbed bolts which do damage over time. Also Skyrim Redone sort of nerfs sneaking a bit and also increases the time enemies search for you in all stages of detection.

Two hit killin a Dragon? Ya that kind of powerful bow attacks.
Some people always say archery is under powered, but I never found it under powered. hehe
No way is it underpowered, certainly not with my 144 dmg bow with fiery soul trap and paralysis enchantment. Love archery.
@OP: archery is all I use personally, along with various enchanments on armour, etc. The tricky thing is not overdoing it. And a dagger sometimes.
It isn't just overpowered with a bow, bow is just stronger at low levels when your sneak is not so well developed that you can sneak up behind people unnoticed.
It's the equivalent of a shield bash which staggers and damages the enemy.
