Help: moving to SSD
I am getting a SSD, and installing my OS on the SSD again.
I don't want to do all the INI tweaks and install all the mods again, how can I move skyrim to my SSD?

Copy and paste the two Skyrim folders.

that's it? just download steam again and put skyrim in the steamapps folder and ini in the data folder? Already thought that might work, but wasn't sure if steam would accept that, like maybe it detects piracy or something.

thats it and nope, you will have a some steamspecific files, which will pove your legitimacy :D

read this
Ok, so this transfers the game from steamapps, but what about the Documents folder? Is it save to just copy and paste that?

you just make a steam folder on the SSD and copy the skyrim folder to it or redownload to the folder on that drive. and the documents is a copy paste. you might also want to look at moving where windows looks for the documents folder you can put it on a reg harddrive if your ssd is drive C then put it on Drive D since you don't need it to be that fast.

I did this on my pc a few moths ago. My ssd came with a program to create a image of my original drive on my ssd drive. I of course connected my ssd first, ran the program, waited till finished. I beleive it also set up which to boot from the next time I booted, of course I had to do this at the beginning of the boot. You will probably get some software to do the same thing, read the documentation on the disc. Have you ever been inside a pc before to add a hard drive or dvd player before. If so should be very simple, just avoid static, power off first, and go for it. Make backups, of everything first as suggested. I have windows 7.

when i traded up to ssd i took it as a chance for a fresh clean install
took me over a week of tweaking testing and mixmatching to get it near right, its still not exactly how it was :bandit:

I am actually installing a new os on the SSD, so I'm putting all the files on an external hard drive first, and then move skyrim once the OS is installed. So if I do this, I have to:
1) copy skyrim folder from steamapps/common to external HDD
2) copy /documents files to external HDD
3) install OS on SSD
4) install steam on SSD
5) move Skyrim's files to SSD
sounds about right?
