Whiterun Has Gone to Hell
Well, go figure...

So, I'm currently working a level 19 Imperial scout/werewolf playthrough and I'm having great fun. However, Warmaiden's and Belethor's General Goods are officially, and permanently, closed. Utilizing my keen powers of deduction, I've surmised that, unbeknownst to me, and while my Dragonborn was out saving all of Skyrim, the proprietors of those two businesses were the unfortunate victims of vampire attacks. I came to this conclusion based upon the fact that, when I visit Whiterun, there's always an interesting array of corpses laying about.

Anyway, the whole thing is quite ironic being that I found a character that I want to do my first complete playthrough with. On the upside, it gives me some good RP motivation to join the Dawnguard. On the downside, it may have a global impact on Tamriel's economy. I mean, if dragons weren't enough, the flow of bear pelts, looted armor, and precious gems is going to be seriously affected.

It's grim but I'm not going to dump all of my East Empire Trading Company stocks. I did receive word, via courier, that the minimum wage for all hold guards is getting raised to 10 septims per day. Hopefully, that will stimulate growth even in the face of Emperor Mede's new health care reforms.

Never go into towns or cities during the night, if you do not show up at night no one will die

Ysolda should take over Belethor's. Assuming, of course, that she also isn't dead.

You could use Random Vampire Attacks in Towns Disabled and Everyone is Essential - NPCs Protected so you don't have to worry about vampires and dragons killing everyone.

Run For Your Lives only affects dragon attacks - you also need When Vampire Attack.

Way to turn Skyrim into another dimension of nerd. You just embarrassed us all and Bethesda.

How many absurdist comics does it take to to screw in a lightbulb?

Fish.

I was pressing through the normal story line when the vampires became more of a serious threat. When I began finding dead people in towns with corpses of vampires nearby who had been slain by the guards, I felt it was necessary to take the threat head on and deal with it before things got too far out of hand. Once Harkon was dealt with, the attacks all but completely stopped, excepting a few random encounters with them outside of towns. But since then, it's calmed down a lot.
Deciding when to take action against an emerging threat sometimes takes priority, in this case it superceded the threat of Alduin and Miraak's petty followers.

@ Vahlok Ro Tiid, i agree Harkon should be dealt with early in the game. He was easy to kill when you walk past him while he is talking to his daughter, then go into sneak and backstab him dead in one shot.

Now, that's a kill worthy of a hero!

I'm not sure if it's because I'm playing on the vamp side this time, but I've hardly had any vampire attacks on the cities this time. I've also not had a single dragon yet, and I'm 90% sure I switched them back on when I got to about level 8... Odd, though given I don't shout much and am not particularly interested in doing the MQ this time, not a big problem, plus my NPCs are safer.

Well, you know, apart from me drinking their blood every so often. (Though I've bought a plot of land near Morthal, so I won't be feeding off the locals. Not excreting where one eats, etc.)

I always revive NPCs when they die, and if they die without me knowing (no bodies to click on) I just pop them back into the world with the console command.

Rhaegar, I'm a bit confused by your comments. Were your responding to my OP or another poster's comments? I'm asking because your comment was somewhat vague, ambiguous, and vapid. If you could please expand on your original thoughts I'm sure someone would be willing to respond to them.

You should go live in markarth or Solitude, nothing usually happens there so nothing can get dissrupted. I have a house in solitude and im working on another charactar for one in markarth. (Must be level 20 for house in Markarth)
