Is skyblivion finished?
Hi,

I always wanted to play oblivion but every time I download it and give it a go the combat system in it kills it for me, it just feels to spongy.

I read that there is a skyrim mod that converts oblivion into the skyrim engine, and was wondering if any of you know weather its finished (at least the base game) or not?

I'm pretty sure your talking about SkyWind. It converts Morrowind into Skyrims engine.
*Edit. And it's not finished.

I know right!, thats what really put me off when I played oblivion, I would like to play skywind but from what I heard that there isnt allot of audio dialog in morrowind and you have do allot of reading, I like reading as much as the next guy but I prefere audio since it helps with immersion allot.

I read on a forum after I made this post that they may stop working on skybilivion since the project turned out to be too large in size. Not sure if it true or not but if thats the case it really sucks.

Well I looked Skyblivion up and it looks pretty much abandoned.

I've been playing The Elder Scrolls since the first one, and if you think you didn't enjoy the combat in oblivion or morrowind just try the movement system in Daggerfall. For me the movement system took some major getting used to but when they introduced the WASD movement controls I never went back. I will occasionally play Daggerfall, Arena, Redguard or Battlespire but I have to be in a damn good mood before starting

Oblivion is borderline acceptable for me, it's just to outdated for me to enjoy. Same goes for prety much any game. Ofc, if combat isn't such a major part of a game I do enjoy it more, like thief focusses more around stealth, and deus ex gives you alternatives to combat.

As i recall it ran into some legal issues with Bethesda and could not really be developed further without resulting legal actions.

Finished? They have only just barely started it and putting it on ice until skywind is done.

I believe you are thinking of morroblivion, that ran into legal issues since it ported all the art resources straight from one game to another. While there might be some legal trouble further down the road, so far it seems like they plan to redo all the art resources from scratch themselves. I don't think Bethesda has made any comment at all so far, regarding skywind or skyblivion though.

That being said, the combat in Oblivion isn't THAT terrible. Sure, if you use a onehanded weapon it feels a lot like you are just waving the weapon around, and you can do so easily whilöe running backwards... But you can fix that by simply adding a few mods ("deadly reflex" is a well known mod that overhauls the combat), or you can simply use bow and arrow. I actually prefer wielding a bow in Oblivion than in Skyrim. I like how I have to take the trajectory of the arrow into account in Oblivion as I shoot over long distances.

EDIT: And if you care about combat so much, try "dark messiah of dark and magic". That's how first person combat should be done

Ah, yes, it was Morroblivion i was thinking about.

I prefer the Morrowind combat rather that Skyrim and Oblivion because there is the chance that you could miss, which i think is a realistic. The dark Messiah combat is pretty good as well.

Is Skyrim going to be a free mod or seperate game?
