CoW questline should I do it or not do it ?

So I never played as a mage and never saw the CoW questline.I'm a lvl 42 sneaky archer would anyone recommend doing this or would it be a waste of time because I'm an archer ?

It is worth it, just for that final quest reward to face off agianst those damn dragon priests.

Mostly no. You might have thought the Companions questline was strangely short and you ended up harbinger real quick - here, you can know *one* spell, have absolutely no perks in the magic tree, and minimal skill and still end up the Archmage. Really, other than getting some dragonpriest masks, its meh.

Though you do get a player home (archmage's quarters) out of it.

Oh and I forgot to ask am I gonna get any good Restoration spells because I'm playing on master and my fast healing spell is really weak at the moment.

fast healing is a great spell even on master but you need some perks to make it stronger one is +50% to all healing and another one makes it restore stamina also both are well worth it for all classes.

No. I just finished the quest line, and there is a minimum of FOUR spells you have to cast, and an optional fifth, to get through to the end. Yes, I counted. It's a pathetic number to be sure, but stop making up s**t about only having to know one spell.

Is this better or worse than earlier TES games? It depends. In Morrowind you could become Archmage without once casting a spell, but by BUYING your way to the top with trainers.

Well, let me see here.

First spell (optional) to get in the college at all. Can be bypassed with a speech check.
2nd spell - a ward
3/4th spell - fire/frost for the machine - and you only really need one of these unless you mess up.

So, I see 2 spells required and 2 optional.
That's all I know about.

That's already TWICE the number of spells you claimed!

Here is what I have counted:

1) Optional spell to get into the college
2) Ward spell during class demonstration
3) Optional spell cast at door in Saarthal (a shout will work, but you are told to use a spell)
4) One (optionally two) spells to focus crystal in Mzulft
5) Two spells to get past doors in Labyrinthian

By my count that's four mandatory spells, plus three optional spells. This is not counting any mandatory staff use, or spells used in CoW side quests.

Let me make a demonstration,let's say you are in labyrinthian and you arrived at the doors,do you need to go all the way back to another place to learn that spells.

For the entrance test, she will sell you the spell if you dont know it. Tolfdir will teach you Lesser Ward for his test. You can find the Frostbite and Flames tomes in the Aedrome where you focus the crystals, though you start with Flames. I think you will also find the Frostbite tome at Labyrinthian, but since you go there after Mzulft, you should already have it. Plus, they should all be available for purchase at the College itself.

I've had it once where I needed more than 100 magicka to cast a spell to enter the College. I just went and enchanted some gear for +magicka rather than spend any level-up boosts to do this. The other spells required are, iirc, all novice level, so cheap to cast and easy to find/buy. Some are even present during the quests they're needed for, just in case you haven't learnt them by then.

The spell to gain access is randomised, I think, so it's probably worth saving when you arrive in Winterhold, then go up to speak to Faralda, if she gives you a spell that you don't have magicka for, try reloading. First time I got something which costs 145, second she wanted something much easier (I'm playing as a vampire/mage/thief hybrid thing, so I will be putting points into Magicka, but I went there while I was still at level 1, so obv I only had 100 anyway.)

Out of curiosity, do scrolls or magic staffs count?

I don't think scrolls or staves count for entering the college or Tolfdir's ward, but they should work for the other cases.
