Dark Screenshots
I - and apparently few others - have a slight problem, where screenshots taken from the game are way more darker than what our screens show to us. Topic came up under Screenshot thread, but I thoughtt it would be wisest to create an separate thread.

I did full reinstall - including a total wipeout of all cahches and mods- to solve the problem. I believe that my problems started with Climates of Tamriel, but I can't be certain about it. My settings are at (CoT) Vanilla state and I have started a new character (true restart, without Steam sync) to ensure that nothing from my previous saves is affecting my game.

My brightnesss slider is standing at the middle of bar and changing it's direction does not seem to affect the darkness of my screenshots.

Please do not guide me to any image manipulating programs as a solution: I probably have them more than you do (from Photoshop to Gimp.)

I am not alone with this problem, so have you any questions/solutions to fix this problem?

Well i also have Climates of Tamriel, but I don't have the issue you have (for as far as I know). Maybe you can check with others, compare mods and see if you all have 1 or more mods in common and try to de-activate them or so??? Maybe a lot of work, but if it is a mod issue, you can try to find out where the problem is....

Don't shout at us. That is very rude and not helpful.

Photoshop is not an answer to all problems. If you actually knew anything about image editing, then you would also know that modifying image brightness does not happen without marks.

a less angry comment- about the full restart did you completely delete everything from your computer? The steam folder and such. Also mods have things that aren't deleteted when you delete the mod so try to locate the mmod file, if you still have it, and then locate the files contained in the mod, on your computer.

Yes. I deleted whole my cache.

Edit: There was no active effects from any mods in my game, when I reinstalled it.

Woudl you rather have the image with marks, or not have it at all?

Not at all, in opposite of visible marks.
I have done this as my living, you know?

Good for you.

I am pretty certain this has nothing to do with any mods you have installed or any video settings in game, but rather Steam itself. If you are using Steam to capture screenshots, you'll find that a lot of the picture quality is lost (especially from compression). The in-game screenshots (I'm pretty sure you can take screenshots directly from the game as well, I think it's the F2 button) also aren't very good either. I would recommend using a third party image capturing software, perhaps fraps for example.

I have been using Ifran view for personal screenshots. Problem is, that peoples like to share their shots in Steam as well.

I need to do some comparison tomorrow. I linked this thread under the one it originated and I hope you can get something out of it. I need to wake up for work at 05.00 and it is already 23:19....

I'm worried about the game play. I hope that you willl still be able to free roam and not be tied down by a single story line.

You can still upload them as artwork if you want to share them on Steam

Actually, there is a way to upload screenshots taken with an external program and still upload them as screenshots rather than artwork. I don't know how, but I came across information awhile back that gave instructions so you can find it by doing a google search.

I apologize for sharing the wrong link in other converstation. I was dreadfully tired and - unfortunately - still am. Spending whole days outside when working at construction yard during winter can sometimes do that for you.

I will do those comparison shots for Steam, Print Scrn button and IrfanView (<- hat I also seemt o have misspelled) during today or tomorrow. Right now I need to rest.
