Missing items in treasure chests
I think it was Smile N Fire that said it sounded like I had a "bashed save" or something.... Not even sure what that is. Another user (Ilja?) suggested I try a Save game file script cleaner, but nothing came up as orphaned or missing or needing anything done to my save file...

A LOT of treasure chests in my game are EMPTY. Long, drawn out quest to get somewhere, past traps, Adept & Master level locks, some traps, and a treasure chest will be EMPTY. I'm not sure what's wrong with my game or how to fix it.

Case in point: On the approach to Falkreath coming from the East near Helgen, there's a tower near Falkreath that has a Spriggan in it, guarding a chest. It's empty in my game. It's locked, but it's empty.

I just found out last night that there are mods still installed in my game leftover from the previous playthru from about a year ago, and I know I didn't add it this go round. So, I'm probably screwed, unless I uninstall all mods, get rid of my mods folder, and then start a fresh game.

Any suggestions for NOT having to start all over again? This is ridiculous, but it's my fault really. Should have been more careful. :-(

It sounds like your levelled lists are busted in some fashion.

What mods do you have that affect them? Also what mods did you USED to have that affected them?

You are right though - you're probably screwed I'm afraid - condolences.

check if you can restore a previous version to get back to where you were then(windows i mean). then download it and make a copy you can use to upgrade your files.

personally i would just start a new game though

What are "levelled lists"? I've heard that term before, but not sure what they are. Something in the CK?

Not sure what my previous mods were, not all of them anyway. I'm not sure which mods affect level lists since I don't know what those are. :-(

I'm not sure how I could find out what mods are installed previously, since NMM isn't recognizing but 1 or 2 of them.

Well the script cleaner isn't a cure all - but if it didn't find anything I'm at a loss what to suggest.

You mentioned that you saw evidence of previous mods in your current game - so those mods are what I was referring to.

But yes - if the game is that broke - the easiest and quickest thing to do is nuke the damn thing and start over. Make sure 100% the old mods are gone and rebuild your setup.

It sucks but pinpointing what's actually wrong could take ages and fixing it may be impossible because its random data that your current saves are dependent on.

I've seen concrete evidence of two of the mods I installed over a year ago, but only one was listed in NMM that I could tell. I'm just assuming that probably ALL of them are still in there, and I just can't remember what they are.

Sigh..I really didn't want to start over, but it's probably the safest bet at this point, since I wouldn't even begin to know where to start on tracking all of them down.

I'm just worried that if I continue the game, I will be missing something eventually that will "break" the game, or an AI/NPC won't be available that I need for a quest, etc. Curse my stupid impatience and not deleting everything before starting Skyrim again this time.

Well I was trying to figure out if you were running anything that used one of the proc patchers. They're java apps that go thru the levelled lists and update them for certain mods and compatibilities. If yes - you may have done something wrong there and we could try to fix it.

You could just keep on playing and may even be fine all the way thru (highly unlikely!)

But if the chests are always empty what's the point?

Also starting over isn't so bad if you use one of the alternate start mods ... I mean you're lvl 1 again but at least you don't have to sit thru the damn cart ride.

Might be worth a shot. I can get a complete list tonight, maybe, once I get home. I have no idea if any of the mods I'm using have any java apps in them. Might be hopeless if I can't remember what I installed a year+ ago though.

No, with my luck, it'll go toes-up tomorrow!! If I do start over, I will definitely do the alternate start thing. Thanks for your help. It is most appreciated. Everyone's is.

You would know if you'd used any of the proc patches ;-)

That settles it, then. I haven't, because I don't know it. :-)

Would it be possible to manually "refresh" the leveled list of items for my game via something like this?

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/721521-merging-leveled-list/

Because I don't have any mods installed, now or ever, that I know of, that affects weapons or treasure or anything like that. I'll pore through my mods list, directories, and stuff later to try and make sure, but would something like that work if I could get hold of a vanilla list?

Just waiting on my ..... holy hell!!!! 9.3Gb update?!?! All I did was delete all my mods, and then did a reverify game file integrity.. Whoa.
EbonHawk 18. juni 2014 kl. 11.41
Not sure what that download was all about, but it's done. Now, 8 hours of mod downloads later (wanted to make certain everything was d/l'd correctly and the latest versions), I'm getting closer to getting to play again. Making a log of all the mods this time; don't know why, just in case maybe. It's been a long 24 hours of not being able to play Skyrim though. Sheesh. Hope this doesn't happen again.

Problem is, I keep finding more mods I want in my game. And then there's all the texture packs, official, unofficial, patches, etc, etc, etc, ad infinitum. Then I got called into work unexpectedly....

I hope this is all worth it and my junk starts showing up in the right places. Hehe, junk. There's probably a mod for misaligned "junk" as well. Jeez, there's a LOT of mods!!! :-)

You definitely need to use something to bring all that stuff together properly. i dont use any mod managers or organisers. I use only Wrye Bash. watch vids on how to use it and what all the colors mean. if it looks like a rainbow you have problems
