If you are using windows 8.1, this happens. Just got a new razor blade laptop and I can't play skyrim. Kinda bumed about it too.

so no way around it?

I've been hunting for a solution but it seems there's no fix. I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact 8.1 is a 64 bit system. I know a lot of software in general doesn't run well on 64 bit set-ups and we have to roll things back to 32 bit at the office.

I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that Skyrim is a demanding game in general and the slightest hitch can junk the game. Think of the dragon issues on the PS3. The never were able to fix that.

I'm just amazed that Fallout NV works just fine and Skyrim is the issue.

My friend is playing the game with Windwos 8.1 and never had this issue. I am sure that there is a solution.

was it already installed before the update for windows 8.1?
because on my laptop i just installed the game, and ive had 8.1 for a week or so now.

It is not a laptop, but a computer. We built it and installed Windows 8.1 about month ago. Steam and Skyrim were installed during next weekend.

Un-install windows 8.1 and install windows 7. Or you using mods? Because if you downloaded a mod and are using other mods the conflict and make this happen I had this porblem before, just had to remove a certain mod.

MODS. I just junked all the mods and the game runs well. Try getting rid of the mods (if you loaded them). Seems to have worked for me.
