Heavy armour mage
So I'm trying to build a heavy armour mage, and so far I've gotten him to level 40. Two handed is maxed out, heavy armour is almost there. Restoration, smithing and enchanting are also very high. He mostly uses enchanted weapons and armour and does a lot of soul snaring for that matter.

So far so good, he is hard to bring down in this point. But I was wondering that considering the perks not going all the way to level 100, what else should I focus on? Is there room for Alchemy perks? Destruction?

I find alchemy to be a bit overpowered in skyrim so i dont level it anymore. Destruction is and awesome skill to have for a battlemage. You could also Do conjuration for the extra man power. Nothing beats a 4 man wrecking crew lol. :D

youre at that wall when things start to get old for your toon and you have to start leveling other things or turn your skills legendary. It may be time to switch to 1H and Block because your armor is high you can take a beating.

you can use alteration (mage armor) for additional armor benefits along with the increased resistances (30%).

Can use Illusion spells for the invisible spell specifically and the silent casting perk.

Can put at least 5 -7 points into sneak so you can get the reduced noise perk while in armor.

Can put 2-3 points into lockpicking. (If truely needed, although It isn't all that hard to open locks)

Can also put about 4-5 points into Blocking and become a sheild mage..sheild in one hand, a spell in the other.

After all this you should still have around 15 points left over.

Spending perks in to sneak for reduced noise perks does not make any sense, if Elaini is allready investing to Illusion. Muffle spell is equivalent to Sneak per "Silence" = Armor noice reduction 1.0 (= 100%).

Additionally, any boots - disincluding highest level Nightingale boots - that have muffle enchantment have a value 0.5 (50%) armor noice reduction.

Any boots that player enchants - despite the size of the soul gem used - will give those boots full armor noice reduction value 1.0 <- as with highest level Nightingale boots.

I actually find enchanted bows more convenient than Destruction in one way. Some of Destruction damage can be avoided by using wards. But arrows actually penetrate the wards, and take the magic damage behind them.

Then there's also bound bows which have the highest damage in the game if used with the mystic perk. if you use another perk each action from a bound weapon will cast soul trap on hitting!
But is that a mage / a thief or a nightingale!!! :D
