Is it just me or is the Dragonborn DLC buggy? (SOLVED)
So after beating all the main quests of the base game, I decided to continue the main quests of the Dragonborn DLC. However, once I got the second black book, my character can't go on that moving platform. Here's the quest I'm stuck on due to bugs.

UPDATE 6/13/14 Hey folks, I fixed my problem! I learned that if I play Skyrim on my monitor at a high refresh rate of 144hz, the game becomes unstable. So I lowered the refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz and after that, no more weird stuff preventing me to progress through the game.

Standard questions at first:
- Have you installed Unofficial Patches?
- Have you paid attention to load order?

No and what's the correct load order?

I will link the patch below. You will also need patches for DLCs you have. They are listed at the same page. The top load order is also written there, but I suggest that you use LOOT to make sure that you other mods are in proper order as well. I will link a tutorial video about it as well.

As a general rule, however, Gamebryo and Creation engine games tend to be pretty buggy, especially as the campaign goes on and the saves become bloated. Best to save early and often, as well as never overwrite.

I hope this doesn't mean I'm screwed. Oh well, look at the bright side, at least I beat all the main quests of the base game.

Damn, no luck so far. Think I'll just go back to the last save I have after beating the last main quest of the base game and focus on the Dawnguard DLC quests instead. Man this game is so buggy. I hope I didn't do anything to make the bugs happen that caused my character not able to go on that moving platform.

I can barely progress but if I do, it caused by bugs. I also find myself moving to different spots, not so far, without having to do anything. Here's how far I made it.

I may consider creating a new character and start over focusing only on the Dragonborn DLC quests. Less fun but at least I'd get my money's worth.

And why not overwrite? From a programming perspective it doesnt makes sence.

I had Mirak's boots of water walking, and there was one part where I walked to an accessable bridge to that spot. I think. Sorry, probablly no help, even if you had the boots.

Because with Skyrim, script data is stored in saves. Fresh save inspects fresh script conditions, when overwriting will write new data over old data.

To be honest, the performance difference isn't dramatic. Few less CTDs is stil few less CTDs, right?
GenRabbit Jun 9, 2014 @ 1:16am
Your telling me they have two different save functions? That doesn't makes sence. Any attempt to change only a few bytes in an old file, which is dynamic on top of it all is just pure madness.
A quicksave or normal save should be handled the same way with one exception. the quick save keeps the same name. Quicksave or newsave all use the same saveroutine when writing out the data. Only difference being the quicksave has to delete the old quicksave before writing a new file.
Ilja Jun 9, 2014 @ 1:19am
What makes sense here is the difference in CTDs and oprhaned scripts between separate and overwritten saves.

From the player point of view, that is also the only thing that matters.
