What do you mean you can't get it to work? Also, you don't need the zeroes.

I take it you're not using the brackets? It should look like

player.additem f 1000

to get 1000 septims.

Also, if you use this trick on merchant NPCs, don't go over 40k. I don't remember the exact amount, but if you go over ~40k you will sell stuff to them but you will not get more money and they will not get less money. You will just loose your items. If you want to do that, i suggest just adding 10k, selling some stuff, adding 10k, selling, etc.

I think it's 30k. This is also actually true if they somehow end up with >30k by 'legitimate' means (i.e. if they somehow have a ton of expensive stuff and you buy it all off them) I think, or at least it still can happen.

player.additem 0f 100 gives you 100 gold.

The "leading Zeros" <0> are not needed !!
gnewna has the proper entry above.
