The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Statistiche:
Why Skyrim is the best RPG ever made
After about 40 hours into the game, I don’t think it’d be crazy, at all, to declare/claim that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Although I will probably be putting upwards of 150-200 hours conquering this epic, I doubt that much could dissuade me from this original opinion. Even with all the hype leading up to Skyrim’s release (usually not a good thing), the game has surpassed most peoples’ expectations. I would name it the greatest RPG ever, but frankly; I haven’t played every single one. In my opinion though, it definitely is the best, and believe me, I’ve played quite a few. It has cemented itself as not only a worthy successor for a storied Elder Scrolls franchise, but also as one of the greatest role playing games ever made.

Not even remotely the best cRPG ever made. Not even in my top 20. That is not to say that it is without its charms, or even that I do not enjoy it. But greatest of all time, or even greatest in the last decade, it is not.
I like morrowind more myself so Id give it Best RPG ever, but Skyrim is a tight number two.
Does it beat the crap out of other RPGs in terms of exploration? Yes. Mods? Yes.

As far as the main quest is concerned, I can't stomach it. I hate the dragons too, which is why I used Alternate start to bypass the main quest. The game engine is buggy as heck too, but it's bearable. Also, the Elder Scrolls lore is ok, but nothing that excites me. I appreciate that it's not really shoved down my throat though.

I wouldn't say it's the overall best.

I am curious about your top list. I've been looking for new RPGs.

What are your preferences in RPGs? (I prefer story and character focus. Also, large range of character customization, if possible.)

I loved Morrowind, but it seemed a little too easy to get lost.
Oblivion kind of kicked it up a notch for me and user created mods became all the easier to install.
Skyrim took everything good from Oblivion and kicked it up a notch. With user created mods and patches I'm going with Skyrim as the greatest RPG ever made, at least in my opinin.
Tried playing the Xbox 360 version and oh boy was it ugly in comparison to my pc version.
Recently got Fallout 3 and Fallout NV during a Steam sale and I wish they would have kept the limb crippling system as a part of Skyrim, that would have made things epic.
But yeah, we've all got out favorites, before the Elder Scrolls mine was Y's on the TG16 and before that Final Fantasy 3 on SNES.
Hope Morrowind and the other provinces make it into the game through user mods, then it'll be hands down the best RPG ever in my book.
The elder scrolls series is one of the better rpg's, that's if you read into the lore and piece it together. Like most RPG its a slight rip off but it has depth. Morrowind's writer's let you into the whole TES universe, the games a true epic. (i own the unopened collectors edition)
though AD&D game mechanics rox, faerun ftw

i love the game but when i discoved the invisible walls on roads that lead out of the map i just felt something die inside.
Please tell me you're talking about a modded skyrim. I can't stomach vanilla. Even then mods don't quite put it that high up.

I'd like to hear your top 20, too. Does a top twenty even exist in crpg's? I can't think of that many.

Dragon age origins and Star wars Knights of the old republic to of the best character/story driven games out there.

I checked your game list to make sure that I wouldn't repeat any on there. For me, I am an old man; a man that grew up playing tabletop roleplaying games. For me, the more faithful the computer game is to tabletop systems, the better. As such, 10 games I would recommend off the top of my head are (in no particular order):

Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
Planescape: Torment
Fallout
Fallout 2
Ultima VII
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Vampire: The Masquerade--Bloodlines
Gothic 2
Wizardry 8

If I were to round out for a personal "top 20" I would include:

KOTOR 2
Pool of Radiance
Icewind Dale
Neverwinter Nights 2
Wasteland
Jagged Alliance 2
Divinity: Original Sin
Fallout: New Vegas
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Might and Magic VI

EDIT: Some honorable mentions would also include Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, Icewind Dale 2, Arx Fatalis, Ultima II, Pool of Darkness, Mount and Blade: Warband and Champions of Krynn (largely because it is Dragonlance).

edited for size limits ><

Thank you very much for the list.

I've almost gotten wizardry 8 a few times, but promised myself to hold off until I finished the 1.5 etrian odyssey games on my backlog.

I've heard great things about some of them (Vampire, Gothic series, Divinity, Arx Fatalis). I'll bump them further up on my considerations.

I'll look into the others when I'm not horribly tired >.<

YES!

Arcanum has to be my all-time favorite RPG. The Steampunk theme, along with the awesome crafting system just blew me away.

The added bonus was being able to find your own schematics, aside from the ones you learn just by adding points into engineering. Some REALLY cool inventions that you could find. The story was very involved as well. At the time, it felt like you had a major impact on the outcome of things.

It's just an awesome, underrated game.

The KOTOR series was great as well. One of the few RPG games that I have invested 3+ playthoughs each. Shame that they seem to have capped the series off with the crappy MMO...
Because... this is SKYRIM! ^^
Happy to see you enjoy the game Roger. :) I do not agree with you but hey, it's subjective. Personally I was blown away by Daggerfall back in the day, then Morrowind. I guess we all have our favourites.
