Been there, seen it, got the T-Shirt. I was trying a purely magic based character (conjuration, alteration, Illusion) without using destruction magic, and I conclude that it was an epic failure LOL. Silly me :P
True that, problem is - you know how some games just pan out? - I haven't found any yet. I always just play with what I er.. find? or loot these days.
I still have Mandrake, an older character, that has combined +40% archery and 1 handed gauntlets, Muffle and +40% 1 handed boots, etc.. without employing any exploits but, and it's a big but, I get bored killing everything in 4 or 5 hits. I like a challenge but.... the Overlord was lording it over me. Inigo kept going down on one knee, proposing to the other Draugr Deathlord and, well, I think they were just really intent on the two of us dying and as only one of us is essential. Sigh...
Unless your spreading your combat/defensive skills out among *all* the weapons you should be able to handle this at level 30.
Your problem is using 'Bound Sword'. Magic does not scale up with character level nor how skill level. Meaning that your bound sword is about the equivalent of a mid-grade iron/low-grade steel sword.
Dump it, grab a level appropriate metal sword and hit the forge to improve and enchant it.
Oh my remedy for getting flung around like a ragdoll by deathlords? The atronach stone, 50% spell absorb, that includes shouts. I really haven't been knocked around by one since.
You do not need to resort to crafting to beat Draugr deathlords. In the world of non crafting the mystic sword is an excellent weapon and influenced by One-handed perks AND conjuration, which means it is on par with Daedric weaponry and when fully perked in Conjuration it can soul trap, and turn undead, ANY level of undead and banish Daedra, ANY level of Daedra. I'm not disagreeing with you, you are absolutely correct about the mystic sword in the crafting world, as you can improve with smithing any steel weapon to surpass a mystic's sword's base damage. However, not crafting changes things.
I did forget to ask if the OP had perked the mystic weapons branch of conjuration. You should.
It might be time to go play something else for a while instead of the same ol' same ol' ...
If we always manage, then we either play on to low level, or have used to much enchantments :)
A game we always manage will soon become dull...a game we struggle and manage will always feel challenging :)
But in the end, no one can tell how you shall play....do it the way that gives you the most :)
But, I am stuck on the guy in the Azura Star though. I know it's something simple I'm missing, but he and his two dremora buddies make short work of me every time. They all seem to hit with fire-based spells, but in such rapid succession, I'm dead in like 2 seconds. The best Resist Fire protection potion I've got is about 21% protection, I think it is, and Resist Magic is around 6%. A UF Shout doesn't seem to affect them at all, and they do so much damage with spells coming from 3 directions at once, that my character is incinerated in the blink of an eye.
Agreed. Haha, this is why I don't craft.
@ebonhawk, what is your stone? It's the lover isn't? Why don't you change to a different stone and then go back to the lover when the mission is finished. As long as you're not playing a mod like Requiem where stone choice is fixed in a group, I don't see why you can't change your stone based on the type of enemy you're facing? Why not try the Lord for a bit, gives you 25% resistance to magic? Or the Atronach, which helps with spell absorption, which offers a lot of protection against mages and their dremora?
