Buying Spells?

I want to do a Conjuration heavy mage to start with (I don't care if this is not the optimal way to progress).

Should I be buying conjuration spells when I come across them or will I find a lot out in the world? Which spells are best to purchase first?

You can use a couple methods. One is to buy soul trap at Dragonsreach and kill an enemy, then start casting soul trap on the corpse. The other is to be within the vicinity of a living enemy (wolves in cages that you find in various areas around Skryim work) and cast Bound weapon spells. These are both powerleveling methods that you can cast over and over until you're satisfied with your conjuration.

And don't forget to use the Mage guardian stone.

Conjure Familiar spell summons a spectral wolf for several seconds (?) a good lowlevel cost per cast helper in battle. Every time the spell expires, cast it again while exploring and foot travleing. Soon your Cojnuraion will go up and you are able to cast the more wicked summons. The Mages College has teachers and spells for sale. Random treasure in dungeons sometimes. Posessions of defeated conjurers, sometimes. Some Jarl's Mages sell spells also.

If you really want to be a bada** conjuration mage, you must wear their badge of honor, the Necromancer's amulet. The stunt in health and stamina regen are offset by healing potions and spells, and you get 25% off conjuration spells and +50 magicka, and the quest is buggy, but very easy to do. By far, the conjuration mage portion of my Jack of all trades build was pretty epic. She had nearly zero spell cost, and that's without crafting. I had her take the atronach stone, which nerfed her summons, but she could still do necromancy, bound weapons, and soul trap and she used summons to quickly regen magicka. By the way, so that you know...

Raise Zombie, soul trap, and bound sword are the spells, believe it or not, that give the most xp per casting. She has a conjuration level of 94 now and lemme see, she started using bound weapons exclusively at around level 30, and she stopped when she started the TG portion of the build at level 40, so in 10 levels she went from 30 conjuration (she had dabbled a wee bit prior to joining the College) to 94. And that's level 30 leveling, I bet, it'd be a lot faster in earlier levels.

I would purchase the raise zombie type spells when you can. They level conjuration quickly if you raise them in the vicinity of enemies.

i use the bound sword and the summon spells to get my conj up. have it to 90 in no time
