Why is skse loading skyrimlauncher.exe?
Upgraded from a 6850 to a GTX760 and now when I load skse_loader.exe it automatically loads skyrimlauncher instead. I didnt change a thing last time I played Skyrim. No new mods or anything. Tried reinstalling SKSE but still no change. What is going on?

Because SKSE has it's own launcher that you can use.

When this happens to me, it's because steam isn't open when I try to launch SKSE. Idk if your problem is completely different, but make sure steam is open, otherwise when you launch SKSE, it will connect you to steam which will then end up opening skyrimlauncher.exe

Nope, Steam is always open. Again I am opening the SKSE loader. A CMD window opens very briefly then the normal skyrimloader loads for some reason.

OK rebooted and for some reason its working as it should. Very very odd. Perhaps it was an issue with replacing my 6850 with the 760. Who knows..

SKSE started doing that to me after I changed something in my Skyrim mods department, ie one of the latest game or NMM updates, or something, caused the game to always load the default Skyrim launcher, no matter what I did. Finally, after shutting down like you did and restarting everything, it got sorted correctly and stopped doing that. I think it was just something in one of the updates, but since it started behaving, I quit trying to figure it out.

All's good when Skyrim is working properly. Makes me less likely to break stuff in RL. :-P

That window is one command window for starting up Skyrim. It should be there, some times you cant se it but it is normal. It is used for starting up the SKSE.
If you navigate to your Skyrim folder you will find one file called.

skse_readme.txt
or
skse_whatsnew.txt
There you can read.

Erm it always loads Skyrim after i click on the SKSE desktop icon. I click on the Steam Play option first, that loads up the workshop mods.
Then i click the SKSE icon and it opens Skyrim. And everything works just fine.

Not yikes....MCM menu works which it can't without SKSE...so i know SKSE is ok> I'm happy..

But for a point of interest...what should it do?

I read the SKSE read me and what i am doing is correct. It says.......

4. Launch the game via running skse_loader.exe. Steam must be running before launching Skyrim.

If you use a desktop shortcut to launch Skyrim normally, just update the shortcut to point to skse_loader.exe instead of TESV.exe or SkyrimLauncher.exe.
