Need some help on balance
Hi

I've crafted legendary dragonbone gear (helm, armour, gauntlets, boots, sword and bow). Up till this point I have been playing on adept difficulty and the game felt balanced. Now that I've upgraded all my gear I'm literally killing things in a few hits, Giants require 2 shots from bow.

What would be the best difficulty to set the game at not to make things insanely tough but just the right feel as if I have never upgraded and have the difficulty set at adept, but obviously with my new upgraded gear.

Note: I have not used any enchantment or any other form of gear to upgrade my stuff. I literally got smithing to level 100 and just crafted dragon gear and used the work bench and grind stone.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: no mods please.

I would try a combat mod like Ultimate Combat or Duel.

Without mods please. Just adjusting the difficulty settings based on the gear I have and my level which is currently 52.

I would do the logical thing and set it up 1 more level of difficulty.

When I beat the main quest it was on adept on my first playthough. I did consider it easy. They i upped it to master and started playing dead-is-dead, then legendary dead-is-dead. I got tired of taking 50 shots to kill an elk and getting oneshot by bandit outlaws. Only certain builds were viable. Now I returned to adept dead-is-dead, and it is easy at times, butt the overall challenge remains along with immersion. Try to beat the game with out dying and then level up the difficulty.

I'd just set it up to master and see if it works for you, if not, then expert. Anything under expert will be too easy with your gear most likely.

That's why combat balancing mods are so popular, because Skyrim gets too easy on any difficulty if you have the 'best' gear imo. Not only does it balance the combat, makes it fun too because AI act like they want to fight rather than acting like target dummies :/

Generally how many hits should it "normally" take to kill a giant? (I'll use this as a reference to determine the games difficulty).

Expert mode is nice, especially at the start of the game where you'll know what it's like to be on the receiving end of a 2H finisher by bandits.

Yea I use Expert at the start of the game and a little later I switch to master with SkyRe and Revenge of the Enemies with 1-2 followers. Pretty challenging

Should I just craft standard Dragonbone gear and not upgrade them to legendary and keep the difficulty set at adept?

Just put the thing on Expert man and try it. There no 'normal' amount of hits because this depends on gear, level, perks etc. Giants level up too, so yeah just try what feels good. You can always but the difficulty back.

I've tried that lol. To me it just feels like I'm either 2 shot killing while taking minimal damage, or getting 2 shot killed and doing minimal damage. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground.

I'll test again otherwise it will be mods.

I don't think there is a middle ground.
