Should you save up your dragon souls?
Okay without wanting to hear any spoilers, I wonder if the amount of dragons in Skyrim is finite or whether they reset along with most cells every couple days.

Because if they are indeed finite, then I have to be really careful which shout I want to unlock and not just randomly unlock stuff, right?

Last count 60 words (not all need souls). Mods add more, I was one word missing first time round and had over 80 dragon souls in my inventory

I believe there's a glitch where some dragons that respawn at word walls dont give a soul when you kill them. Definitely prioritize which shouts you want, but I believe there should be enough dragons in the game to cover most of the shouts. Especially if you have Dragonborn.

And if you run into that glitch, you can always open the console and type:

player.modav dragonsouls 1

to give yourself the soul that glitched and didn't absorb.

The amount of dragons is infinite, but it can take some time to encounter one in the wilds unless you use mods like deadly dragons. Delphine has a map with dragon burials in her table, that's a good way to know where to find dragons early in the game.
I could tell you about more ways to find dragons, but they contain spoilers.

About spending souls, think about which shouts are more useful for you and unlock them first.

Depends. Are you using the vanilla game or my modded levelling system?

If vanilla game, Dragons are infinitely spawning so you'll be able to get words of power and you don't really need to save up.

If my modded levelling system, you probably should save your Souls for the level up, or you'll screw yourself out of some incredible perks, at least temporarily.

(Note: the levelling system I'm using is a combination of Skyrim Perk Edits and Rebalanced Gameplay, my own edits to Skyrim Uncapper, and Dragon Soul Relinquishment. SPEaRG has a system in place called Auto-Perks where you will automatically unlock the perks in the main branch of the skill tree as you reach the required level. My Uncapper edits make it so that you don't gain perk points when you level up. Dragon Soul Relinquishment allows you to spend your dragon souls to get perk points, as well as health/magicka/stamina upgrades, shout cooldown times, etc.)

I use a mod that lets me start with out the boring tutroral mission so I never end up becoming the dragon born.

That being said I recall having all shouts with there max level so I think you can get more souls then shouts.
