Spouse / Follower Not Behaving Correctly?

So I'm in my second PC playthrough of Skyrim and I decided to marry Farkas for the hell of it. Problem is, I asked him to be my follower AFTER we got married, and now he no longer behaves as a follower. He just constantly follows me around saying the stuff a spouse would say, but no dialog option comes up to trade items. He still follows me even after I went back to my house in Whiterun and I have no way of dismissing him, as any time I try to recruit someone else they just say "Looks like you've already got someone with you."

I have no mods. I have used console commands to try and remedy it, still not working.

Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to reload a save bc I have done a lot of work and quests since the last time he was behaving normally.

Skyrim followers (vanilla) are pretty crappy. They get confused and sometimes just bluescreen if they have more than one spot that they can calll home, and have all sorts of issues. The mod I linked might help (Sometimes it helps with current games sometimes not).

If he can't be removed through console commands you might WANT to look into mods. Not all mods are for power increase but instead fix terrible scripting issues that the game has. If you're looking to avoid bugs i'd suggest getting the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch. Thing fixes many bugs throughout the game that are still there even now.

If you don't want to look into mods and console doesn't work I suggest reloading cause that's all you can do.

heh.. I have a drastic solution.
If it gets too annoying, you cold try sacrificing him to Boethia.
(and this doesn't require mods).

Do like I do with Lydia. You can't dismiss her and even if you completely ignore her she will hang around inside your home even if you have wife and kids. So early on I take her 3500 steps up Hi H and kill her.

Couple days later I get condolences from the Jarl and 290 gold.

1 Terribly outdated game engine check
2 Atrocious npc voice acting with bottom ugly faces check
3More bugs than a stray dog check
4 Developers who basically dont bother cos they know modders will do their job for them check
if all of those four criteria are met you have either a Bethesda or an Egosoft game congratulations :O)
