[Dawnguard Spoilers] What happens if...
...you try and kill the Vampires in their castle when first meeting them? Can you save the world right then and there, cutting the DLC short?

You cannot do anything other then moving and stealing stuff.

They just don't take damage?

IIRC you can't unsheath your weapon. Even if you could due to quests some would not be able to die.

You can't draw your weapons or use spells or even use shouts.

I just ran around collecting some of the more unique items during the conversation such as the potions of blood for use in my house design.

Oh really? That sounds like a challenge. I wonder if you can move items around the world; damage can be dealt by rigging things so the physics engine starts shooting things around like bullets.

(Try filling a cauldron with rubbish, for eg, and then standing in it.)

If you could attack them, you would die, even if you could kill the others, you need Auriels bow to defeat Harkon, and you don't have it yet. Ergo you die.

You can kill him without the bow, right before the final fight you can even give him the bow and still kill him.

Ok, I was under the impression you needed it to weaken him. I still think without some back up you will die though.

It would be a tough fight for sure, but i'd wager a high level mage could do it, 80% damage resist two high level summons, powerful AOE fire spells, and healing. I wouldn't want to try as anything else though.

Simple answer: You are disabled from any combat.

But, if I could have fought them then and there .. I would have killed them all.
