Modded game, door keys not working
Has anyone had this before? I have a key to a door in my inventory, but activating the door doesn't unlock or open it. I have a ton of mods installed so it could be anything. Just thought I'd see if anyone has had this problem before and know what it is before i try and track it down myself.

Never heard of something like that. Try giving yourself another key to a different door and see if that works. Or try locking a door you already have a key to with console commands and see if it will unlock.

Worth trying before you uninstall stuff.

Gooe ideas. I know how to unlock a door with the console, but don't know how to give myself a key. Can you tell me how?

I would assume keys have item IDs same as other items and objects. So far Breezehome for example. In console type "help breezehome 4" this will list everything to do with Breezehome you can scroll with PageUp and PageDown. Find the one that says perhaps Key or Item beside it. Do "player.additem <ID #> <# You want> So for gold it would be "player.additem 00000f 1" for 1 gold piece

Thanks for that info. I'll give it a try next time I play.

OK, unlocking from the console works fine. Adding a key made no difference. It's as if the activation event on the door doesn't fire. I don't even get the lockpicking mini game if I activate a locked door, with or without the correct key.

I suspect something like Lock Overhaul, but I have been using that for some time without any undue effects, so it's either something else, or something conflicting with that. Lock Overhaul is only active for smashing locks, normal lockpicking and spells are not enabled. I have tried moving that to the end of the load order, but that didn't make any difference.

Is there a way I can start a game and transport myself to somewhere with a locked door that I can experiment on? Otherwise, I guess I'll just have to use the console to unlock doors if I have the right key. I was able to open the claw door in Bleak Falls Barrow without any problem, but I can't open any locked door in Riverwood. They open fine when they are unlocked though.

Got me buggered!

Must have been a bad unzip or something like that. Tracked it down to the main SkyRe file. A game with only that installed had the same problem I'd been having. Re installed from the same archive and overwrote the existing files, and everything seems to work fine now. At least in initial testing, still actually have to get a game going and see how it holds up. Weird to say the least though!
