Skyrim's Population
Is it like me or Skyrim's population is like 50% bandits and the civil war and faction system is a joke when over 70% of the forts are occupied by bandits and the Imperials and the Stormcloacks and other factions arent doing anything to capture them.
Is it just me thinking that?

Nope, it's been mentioned a few times. ;-)

If the Imperials and Storcloaks killed all those bandits you'd likely complain that there weren't enough bandits for you to kill. It's a game, don't overthink it too much, and just enjoy it. :-)

Edit: I misspelled Stormcloaks? Geez, that 1/2 litre of whiskey's done my head in.

Forts are meant to be defended. Bandits can do that, as well as soldiers.

If both sides are considered equal as strength, why on earth would any commander waste his men to capture forts from passive party, when aggressive party can use the loss of forces as their advantage in open battlefield?

While most forts in Skyrim are separated from all settlements, these forts would also require maintaining service routes, for them to be effective. Those would either tie more soldiers from battle field, or commander would risk guerilla tactics against these routes. Skyrim suffers from a civil war, so it does not have solid lines like wars against countries. This means that enemy could come from any direction, so all routes would need to be covered.

I don't see unorganized bandits (considering that OBIS does not belong to vanilla Skyrim) to present such danger to forces that soldiers would bother fighting a war against them during a civil war. Neither I see that claiming forts that are not in any key positions would be wise, before the war has ended. That would only be a waste of men. Key location are being taken manned, when the war goes open, during the Civil War quest line.

I don't suppose you could stop my head from hurting too, could you, EbonHawk? Coffee isn't working today.

Pedantic, you could try dropping a half-dozen aspirins into the whiskey bottle, shake, enjoy preempting the head throb. Woks with beans too. Just add the beano to the beans before consumption.
Just a joke kids... never mix medicine of any type with alcohol.

Lol - you hit the nail on the head, MageThis. I think I took my Oxazepam twice last night, I must have, because I could hardly move or get out of bed this morning. It's certainly the best sleep I've had in a good long while, that's for sure. Worth it? Nah. But what's the betting I forget when the remaining 1/2 litre starts going down. I blame Tesco's £15:05 a litre bank holiday special.

I did this, and now I'm in Oblivion. Well done, you conjured a portal to Oblivion.

Meh, it kinda makes sense. If the fort is occupied by bandits, then each side is likely not going to bother with it since at least - from their perspective - its not garrisoned by their main enemy (sure, bandits aren't good either, but it means that neither side gets that advantage).

It's essentially bandits taking advantage of the rather chaotic situation at hand by taking over forts because they know that neither side has the resources to both fight each other AND garrison the forts AND stop the bandits doing whatever they want.

Of course, I understand that you are just a dog. Your owner - you might call them "mommy" or "daddy" - might have kept you in a thight lash. You probably haven't had time to... eh, *hump around* the neighborhood, past of sniffing some tails, while hiding behind the corner.

That would explain your need voice your... eh.... "need" in a very doglike fashion: whining.
