How does activating to talk with NPCs work?
I always thought that talking [pressing E] to talk to NPCs meant they talk to you, but it seems to not be. What I mean is that by pressing E, it obligates NPCs to say words to you. This seemed fine for a while, but then I went to solitude for the first time, and I pressed E on a bunch of people. They gave me their opinion about the execution, but one person piqued my interest. She said to me "Shhhh! The execution's going to start!" I then thought "Did I actually say something?" I suspended my disbelief that I did, and moved on.

A little later on in the game, I came across an NPC after killing all of Falkreath's guards for fun. A local said "You want to talk to me? After everything you've done?"

I couldn't push my disbelief back any further; My character was actually talking to them. But no dialogue option seemed to appear. I had no idea what I was saying to them, but I seemed to be saying something. I'm going to guess that this is part of the immersion system, but I'm curious about what he says. If this is true for other games, like Pokemon with the silent protagonist, whom I thought was just quiet altogether, then the characters I thought were silent that "talk" to NPCs are actually talking to them, not forcing them to talk to them.

I don't want to ask "Is my character saying things?" Because I know he is. I think he's just saying normal irrelevant convo things like for example:

"Guard, where can I get potions?"
"If you need potions, try Arcadia's Cauldron."

I'm guessing that this is what's been happening between my character and the NPC when I "talk" to them.
I don't have a question, I just wanted to acknoqledge this, and get your thoughts on it. I'm still finding games that do this, and inferring what the character might be saying.

Intradosting. Through some console commands to clone myself, i figured out that all the human races you play as sound like that bard's voice in Whiterun, and the woad elf that sells venison, and the courier that frequently stalks you.

Well of course, cloning yourself will result in the game to use one of the custom voices for you character and sex. But, the game acts like we had our unique voice acting.

It's not just cloning; if you attack some bandits, they have the same grunt-set as you.
The dialogue the NPCs give out can have context based on actions you've done. This is especially applicable to your example in Falkreath. :)

Falkreath is a nice enough little hamlet. But if a dragonborn attacks, then it'll be a different story. -White run guards

But no, I knew that, but its how the player talks to characters.
just pretend that your character is saying something really snarky, it makes everything very funny
