Which Faction Do You Think Would Win in a Battle?
Imperials, Stormcloaks, or the Thalmor...

Thalmor. I've already seen it a couple of times. No question. Better equipted than either of the other two factions. Especially if they have a spell caster, since the AI ignores them.
Imperials do terrible against Stormcloaks. You would think a sword and shield would do better than a two handled weapon. But it doesn't , at least as far as this is concerned.

Imperials: They have more manpower and have more supplies than the Stormcloaks, so I'd say they have a good chance against them and the Thalmor by also relying on all three of the main specializations (combat, magic, and stealth) and they can definitely defeat the Stormcloaks.

Stormcloaks: There is no real chance for them as their army consists only of Nords who are excellent warriors in combat, but they don't rely on magic or stealth as much and they have limited supplies because they're an army consisting only of a fraction of Skyrim. They may not get reinforcements from the other provinces because most of them could be in support of either the Empire or the Thalmor of the Aldmeri Dominion.

Thalmor: They can certainly defeat the Stormcloaks because they're well versed in magic, but their strength may be equal to the Imperials since the Empire also relies on magic as well. The Thalmor don't seem to apply the stealthy tactics they wield in diplomacy that good in stealth, and their physical strength may not be as good as the Stormcloaks. They have headquaters in Valenwood, Elsweyr (if I'm correct), and the Summerset Isles, but this last province is their main base of operations and that's across the sea which leaves them unable to effectively get supplies and deliver information over to the mainland.

Based on this information, I believe the Stormcloaks won't be victorious while the Imperials and the Thalmor duke it out until one of them falls. I think the Thalmor will last for a while, but shall ultimately crumble to an Empire that is battered and weak, but will still be strong enough to stand for however long it may last following the conflict. Note that this is just my opinion and that I have no intention of starting a flame war or being part of one; if this thread gets to that point, I shall take my leave instead of getting involved in the flame war if one does erupt.

I'm going to put my money on the Giants. Heck, I even watched a mammoth take down a dragon one time. :)

Based on the little groups that wander Skyrim I would say the Thalmor win hands down.

On a larger scale things are quite a bit harder to predict. While the Thalmor are in the far more stable position and have been able to rebuild their forces w/o rebels slowwing them they also have far more enemies than the Empire. Should the Thalmor go to finish the Empire that will most likely trigger the newly independant provinces that would like to remain that way to join the battle on the side of the Empire. While the Redguard, Argonians, Dunmer, and Stormcloaks have no love for the Empire, I'm sure they realize that the moment the Empire falls the Thalmor will begin their work on taking the rest of Tamriel.

I definitely agree the Brotherhood of Steel would be victorious in the Fallout series, no argument there. But in your opinion, which of the groups from Skyrim do you think would win in a battle?

The Thalmor are so badass. I can't imagine them losing to the nordic meatheads or the imperial knobs.

The Thalmor are masters of all magic, chances are they would wipe the other two out with little effort.

People seem to be giving the Thalmor a bit too much credit. This is a faction that was fought to a standstill and kicked out of Hammerfell (by treaty and attrition). And the Redguards had no support or heavy reliance on magic.

True, but I think that Hammerfell's terrain could've contributed to the Redguard success against the Thalmor. According to the Elder Scrolls wikia, Hammerfell actually defeated the Thalmor to secure the freedom of lands Titus Mede II gave to the Aldmeri Dominion, but it doesn't say if the terrain had anything to do with it. Although, I do suppose it could've since there are mountains and deserts in Hammerfell in addition to the grasslands on which I believe the Thalmor could've had easy manueverability as opposed to the other geographic regions. This is the wikia page I looked at for any information on this:

The wikia is inferior, use the IL or UESP. Anyway, the Nords would have a similar advantage with their cold climate and mountains.

I have looked at Hammerfell on the UESP as well, but it doesn't go into the matter that much. It does say the Aldmeri Dominion only sought Hammerfell at first until they made the decision to attack Cyrodiil as well upon learning that it wasn't as strong as they thought it was. The choice to split their army into two may have contributed to their downfall against both Cyrodiil and the province of Hammerfell, though the UESP doesn't say anything about whether the terrain helped or not. I've even looked at other pages on the UESP, but they don't say too much about how the province of Hammerfell faired during the war. These are the UESP pages I looked at:

No, the AD were reinforced at some point within the 5 year war. Since the AD were almost destroyed outright in the Battle of the Red Ring and you can't siege Hammerfell for 5 years with a detroyed force.

The AD continueed to fight the Redguards after the Redguards did not cede their lands that the Empire agreed to give them in the White-Gold concordat. Hammerfell was almost destroyed and left in ruin after the 5 year war, however, so the AD did have some victories in the struggle.

So it was more of a stalemate between the Aldmeri Dominion and Hammerfell, then? Is that what you're getting at? If so, I can see how that can lead to the Thalmor pulling out from there since they weren't likely making much progress into Hammerfell.
