The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Alchemy help?
Okay so everyone knows that, after you discover a certain potion/poison, its name will appear in the left, as well as the ingredients. What I noticed is, if you have 1 out of 2/3 necessarily ingredients, the formula will appear in the left, and it will be greyed out, so you can know what else you need for it.
But, when you don't have any ingredient for a potion (e.g. for Restore Health), its name will NOT appear at all in the left, so you don't know what ingredients you must gain from outside..
Anyone knows a way through this?

The game is set up that way. There is a mod I highly recommend for any alchemist though, and it's not a big mod, just a book that tells you the effects of every ingredient.

I recommend it because eating ingredients to find out what they do is just stupid.
Eat more or you can try more. And dont use the Alcemist compendium. It messes things up.

It messes what up? It's just a book.

I guess he means it might spoil the fun away, because it tells you formulas?

Only if you get enjoyment out of wasting ingredients. If you find a daedra heart or void salts, do you really want to eat it just to know what it does? With so many alchemists hanging out around Skyrim, surely there would be a better way to find out which ingredients have which effects? Beats the heck out of alt-tabbing out of the game to look at a website, imo.

The UESP wiki and ELDER SCROLLS wiki have a complete list on all ingredients and what they do.

That I know. But I wish they wouldn't hide your discovered experiments when you don't have ingredients.
Should be like smithing: -name - - ingredients you need for it
I agree with what you are saying, in principle, Asteo600. I think the problem is that there are too many permutations, which can include an already known ingredient with an as yet undiscovered ingredient, to make it a feasible excercise to display known ingredients "while" you don't have any. There would simply be too many branches to accomodate. I'm not saying it's impossible, mind, (and it would have been nice) but I suppose something has to give. The "old" excuse was "there's only so much room on a disk" which I guess now is "we can only go so far and still turn a profit." Anyway - don't you have a note pad? LOL :D

It does work like this, but only after you have unlocked the ingredient's abilities first. The first time it's a pain, after that it's easy.

That's what I was thinking too xD
There is a mod which adds a personal journal to your character. I could use it to note every new potion.
But, I'm starting to get GoyoElGringo's idea in consideration. Since I'm playing on Master, I bet I would be more grateful to know every ingredient rather than be killed by a troll because of no potions..

Eating Netch Jelly gives you a secret perk.
Oh, what perk ? Couldn't find anything on the wiki. You really made me curious.

I have a feeling a punch line is coming but subbing just in case. xD

Me? I'd plumb for the personal journal because, even though I remember a good few ingredient's properties, it's more akin to role playing in my book - see what I did there? lol :-)

Are you talking about this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48375/? ?

That looks pretty amazing tbh.
Why not just memorize the stuff you need? It's not that hard. Imp stool, swamp fungal pod, and canis root make paralysis poison. Blisterwort, Glowing Mushroom and Spriggan sap make smithing potions. Outside of those two what do you need that you can't buy or find?
