Well, if you've finished those quests then you should have all you need to sneak/kill or create your own gear by disenchanting what you were given.

Uh... Nightingale armor or Guild masters's, upgraded to legendary? If you've finished TG, this is really your best light armor until Dragonscale and glass start dropping. If you have the Dragonborn dlc, you should do a favor for Glover Mallory. Ancient Shrouded armor is also decent as well.

Where do I get the ancient shrouded armour?

Also, wont the double damage on backstabs of the shrouded armour be more helpful than the better lockpicking of nightingale?

It honestly depends on your playing style.

Damage bonses in Shrouded armor make it much more powerful armor for someone who focues playing as assassin.

Thieve's Guild armors (standard and guild master) are best armors for someone focusing playing as a thief.

Nightingale armor is the best armor for someone playing on stealthy spellsword and/or survival mods like Frostfall.

Blade of Woe would be your best dagger/assassin weapon. I'd personally go with the ancient shrouded armor, too.

As for your bow (if you use archery), I'd go with the Nightingale Bow until you can craft your own.

I like to enchant the Stalhrim light armor with bows/1h/muffled movement enchants, for aesthetics. If you don't do this then I'd just recommend the ancient shrouded armor. Use the Blade of Woe and either Ebony Dagger or Mehrunes Razor. As for bow either the Nightingale bow, or craft a daedric bow. Idk if the Nightingale bow is better than the Ebony bow.

From what I can see, most people dont use swords, as back up, is it bad if I use dawnbreaker?

Nope, high damage and you are still able to get sneak attack bonuese since it is a 1-hand weapon.

Dawnbreaker is pretty loud, and from what I can remember will alert nearby enemies to your presence. I am not entirely sure about that, but I know it is explosive when it comes to murdering the undead.

it does fire damage and the explosive thing with the undead is correct

The only other swords I have is a blades sword and a honed ancient nord sword

I personaly like the Ebony Mail for sneeking. It gives off some sort of poison affect when you sneek that does damage to people and creatures that get close to you. You must complet the Boethia quest to get it.

I think that's the set i got. It was so outrageously more powerful than the custom-crafted Ranger mod armours I was using, I had to switch.

Right about the same time, though, I got one called Boethia Ritual armor, or was that the ebony ones? Going on memory that is sketchy at best. :-(

Ebony mail is heavy armor, I am surprised you can sneak with that.

Must not be the ebony armor then. I'm at work and going on memory. It's full of holes like Swiss cheese. Is the Ritual Boethia armor light then?

It is heavy armor with muffle and poison cloak. But even with muffle I get detected.
