Better Gear
Where can I find some better gear? I'm level 14 and I'm using some steel armour and an Ancient Nord Sword of Cold. I have around 9k gold to spend on a better gear.

The quality of gear you find depends on your level. The best gear can only be either forged with the smithing skill or obtained through quests. There are some quest rewards that scale with your level. You usually have to be level 40-50 to get the best gear. For example: You can do Daedric quests with the Daedric Princes to obtain unique weapons and armor. You should raise your smithing skill so you can forge Dragonbone armor: one of the best armors in the game. There is also a ritual chamber at the College of Winterhold that gives you Daedric armor and weapons if you have the right ingredients. Or you can download weapon and armor mods. Your choice.

Here's a guide for Daedric weapons and armor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFBf49XJCPs

Yeah, Generally speaking I go to the cart outside whiterun, take the cart to markath, wander around the ruins there to get alot of dwarven ore and make dwarven armor.

to level smithing, and to make money, and to get a decent suit of armor.

It'll start a little difficult but get easier. remember that the 25 weight items have 5 bars in them, and to carry them out in a stack with the Z key.

making dwarven bows is the easiest/quickest way to level smithing.

once smithing is leveled its not really a big issue to make dragonbone armor and weapons.
I'm with the others, smithing is always your best bet. Like the guy above said just grabbing every last dwarven scrap metal/beams/etc. and smelting them down into bars then making bows is a great way to go. You can also find the spell Transmute in the bandit camp straight north of Whiterun (forgive me I forget what it's called). It turns Iron into Silver and then Silver into Gold. And Gold jewelry, even as simple as gold necklaces or rings, is wonderful for experience. The method also levels up Alteration.

Smithing. All I can say. I had Steel Plated Armour until level 70, then decided to level up my smithing to 90 to get the Daedric Smithing perk. Changed the difficulty tremendously as I play on Legendary difficulty. Dragonbone Weapons are better that Daedric but you need level 100 smithing and you need dragon bones which can sometimes be hard because they are sometimes difficult to defeat. Otherwise, just adventure. Find more places, explore, clear dungeons ec cetera. If you don't want to smith and just want to find it that unfortuently is what you are going to have to do. If you don't have the difficulty high then you shouldn't have a problem walking around and killing things for armour until you are atleast level 40-50. Hope this helped. :)
