PSA DONT PRELOAD IF YOU WANT TO KEEP PLAYING OLD SKYRIM
they use the same folder names and preloading the new deletes your old files

Myself and two friends have all had it happen when we preloaded on steam

Funny I preloaded yesterday and am playing old Skyrim now.

FUNNY! since what preloading does is put it in a depotcache folder under the steamapps folder....Learn your ♥♥♥♥ before posting nonsense.

So where did my files go?

I'm looking at the acf file for Skyrim and it says the install directory is "Skyrim".
Looking at the acf file for SSE says that the install directory is "Skyrim Special Edition".

I told it to install to E:\Steam and it's right there in depotcache as previously stated by Silver.

Don't know as I am not in your computer and I was also not there when you hit preload however, the preload functionality is NOT busted or there would have been hundreds more people complaining. ALSO! Ive preloaded games before and they always go to depotcache, verifiable by checking time stamps and the size of my depotcache is the same as the preload size 9.8GB,

So again, just because something weird happened to you around the same time you hit preload DOESNT mean preloading SSE did it. False logic isnt logic.

All I know is it was working before I preloaded and now it says 'cannot start missing executable'

Plus the files are compressed/encripted. They don't even have the same name as any Skyrim files, so they can't overwirte them.

AGAIN! Check your damn depotcache, if its at 9.8GB with timestamp of when you started the preload process then it didn't do it! FALSE LOGIC!!!!!! Seriously not trying to be a ♥♥♥♥ but I clearly stated how to check if the preload worked and that coincidence doesnt mean anything. In the meantime GO VERIFY CACHE ON OG SKYRIM FFS

yeah the preload is in the depotcache. So what? Files are gone. Verify says all Files successfully validated

If all files were there, then the .exe would be there. Now have you actually LOOKED in your skyrim directory or jsut relied on the error? I am TELLING you it was not the preload function, something else happened.

Depotcache doesn't have the actual files in it. It's the preload
