Softlock on Opening Dev Console

So i have come back to skyrim after some time. after opening up the dev console with the ` key, i am unable to close it. I can type into it and apply codes, but am unable to close it again. the only way out of the game at that point is by using the qqq code to quit to desktop. anyone have any idea how to fix it?


EDIT: So i have figured it out. it took a lot of trial and error, but it turned out an overlay i had that showed my fps was to blame.

Odd, if the game accepts the key to open the console, then I'd expect it to have no problem accepting the same key in order to close it again.

In your shoes I'd try the AutoHotKey solution listed on UESP.
