TECHNICAL ISSUES: READ HERE FIRST
UPDATE DECEMBER 2023:
Everything in this thread should be outdated with the upcoming Maintenance Update
Please read this post for more info, and post new issues in the new pinned thread instead: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/72000/view/3890611245653154716

============================

Here is a list of current fixes / things to try regarding technical issues

1. Update graphics drivers (google how to do this for your specific computer). Please don't skip this step even if you think you have done it before, it's solved many issues for me before even though I thought I was on the most current one.

2. Restart your computer

3. If your computer / laptop has a dedicated graphics card, make sure it's using that graphics card (Energy Savings in OSX, I also love this plugin http://gfx.io/ which puts which card your laptop is using in the status bar and lets you switch it by clicking it, you need to make sure steam is launched with it set to nvidia, so after switching on the dedicated card, quit and relaunch steam)

4. If you only have an inegrated graphics card, sorry, the game doesn't seem to work that well because those cards cut corners on rendering and the game's collision detection is based on the GPU, so it can mess up. There are a few things to try that MIGHT help. Try the patch beta (or the version direct downloaded from humble bundle), as seen here http://steamcommunity.com/app/72000/discussions/0/828925216439935627/, install drivers using the "have disc" method (some people have reported success doing this though I don't know exactly what this entails)

The beta build adds a few extra options to settings.cfg in the game's content folder, which may or may not help having it run on integrated. I will push this to the main branch of the game and put the mac version in when I get back from my holiday travels (I don't have my dev machine with me, just my laptop)

OSX ISSUES:
- Download X11 if you are on 10.7 or later and having trouble running the game http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki

WINDOWS ISSUES:
sound issues: fix here:
Try this:

install openAL from here (oalinst.exe) http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx

then delete the openAL dll's out of the closure content folder (openAl32.dll, wrap_oal.dll)
(content folder is program files / steam / steamapps / common / closure I BELIEVE)

GENERAL ISSUES:
No window / not starting / incompatable resolution / crash on startup:

manually edit in your monitor resolution in the game's content folder

savedsettings.cfg: made when the game runs,copied from savedsettings_default.cfg initially if it doesn't exist

settings.cfg: other settings (resolution / fullscreen / controls are taken from savedsettings though)

open these in wordpad

Any other fixes people have post them here and I'll add them to the list if people find success with them

WORKAROUND: LOW LIGHT / INFINITE DEATH ON FACTORY LEVEL 1:

"the issue is that its rendering the spotlights slightly too dark. The shaders for the game are compiled from source, and I do include those in the resources for the game. I don't have any guarantees for how this effects the game, but the blur on spotlights is in Resources/shaders/hblur.cg and Resources/shaders/vblur.cg. You can open them in a text editor. Each of these has a line that looks like

sum *= 1.0/46.0;

try changing it to like

sum *= 1.1/46.0;

to make the spotlights around 10% brighter (i think) which might help (make backups of the files first)"

user Stevoisliak confirms that using 1.5 here makes the level work for him.

This workaround will most likely have unintended consequences later on in the game, so I recommend undoing it after you get past the problem area.

also please post system specs if you have issues, including OS version / graphics card model / laptop model / etc
Running into the falling through floor problem on an Nvidia 330M. It's a pretty crappy card that BSOD with certain games so I'm not surprised.
BTW, if when you enter the furthest door to the right and your game screws up, download the patch beta and turn off weather effects. This helped for my Intel HD 3000.

On an Asus G73JW laptop with NVIDIA GTX460M card, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, NVIDIA driver version 9.18.13.1070, I can play for around five minutes before the game comes to a near standstill with this message in the Windows Application log: "The NVIDIA OpenGL driver has encountered an out of memory error. This application might behave inconsistently and fail." At that point I have to exit Closure completely and run it again to carry on playing.

I have updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers and it does not help - still the same thing. I also have the problem on my desktop PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+ card, with the same (latest) version of the drivers. Closure is unplayable on both machines due to this problem.

CORRECTION: I originally said that I am not seeing the NVIDIA error any more. This was wrong. In fact I still see the message "The NVIDIA OpenGL driver has encountered an out of memory error. This application might behave inconsistently and fail." This happens even with the latest drivers, downloaded from NVIDIA's website today.

on my HP Pavillion DV-6 running Windows 7 64-bit. I can open the game, but when I attempt to start the first level it loads and then nothing displays in the window after. I've updated the drivers on my Intel(R) HD graphics card and it still didn't work. I attempted restarting my computer, and reinstalling the game. Anyone else getting this?
i can run the game fine. but the light isnt going on the enugh for me not to fall through. like the first level in the first door. (apparently it has something to do with my graphics card D: ) is this going to be patched sometime? caus that is what it sounds like. also... Great game :3

I receive this error upon attempting to boot up the game:

Error compiling default fragment shader: default.cg: (10) : fatal error C9999: InitHAL failed"

Specs: WinXP 32-bit SP3, C2Duo E8400 3GHz, GF 550ti (currently running 306.81), 4GB RAM. I know a new driver was released a few days ago, but I was running into the fatal error when I had 301.42. Updating to 306.81 didn't change anything, so I don't think it's a driver issue.
I've also tried the entering in my resolution (4:3 monitor, 1280x1024 max res) in the savedsettings_default.cfg / settings.cfg with no success.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I have completed The Factory, The Hospital and The Circus, but when I start on the next 10 levels the graphics go highwire. Basically, the only thing drawn is the snow/stars in the background and the lights, no character or ground. I can pick up the first light source and move it around, but the only thing I see is the "blob" of light moving, if you know waht I mean.

Hey Glaiel :) My only issue is frame drops, I'm oscillating from 60 to 10, just by moving normally. My laptop ia a Samsung RC530, with a NVIDIA GeForce 540M, i7 2670-qm, 6 GB RAM, and I'm using WIN 7 64-bit. I'm forcing the game into using my NVIDIA card, rather than my Intel. In addition to that, I have my drivers completely up-to-date (310.70).
Is something wrong? I'm anxious to play Closure comfortably :)
Cheers!

Exact same problem here.
SPECS: Windows 8 64-bit. Intel Core i7 - 2600 CPU 3.4 GHz, 8Gb RAM, Radeon HD 6770
I've also changed the settings.cfg and still doesn't wor :(

I'd really appreciate any help given.

I am able to play the game, however, it seems that the game is using the CPU near 100% constantly. I am using ATI graphic card with latest driver in Windows 8, with 1920x1080 resolution. Due to the CPU heavy usage, the games seems to lag occasionally.

Not sure if I can expect a patch soon for the issue? Thanks!

added workaround for infinite falling on factory-1
Forget it, I just updated my graphic card's drivers and it worked perfectly! :)
