Sonic R remake

just saying...the game mechanics may have been horrible but it was one of the best sonic games ever featuring REALISTIC racing in the sonic world. sonic RUNS?! NO WAAAAIIII!! amy drives a car?! HOLY SHI-! and tails do-.......I'm too scared to say.

anyways the music was charming the characters were awesome (especially metal knuckles) and the exploration while racing was pretty awesome (despite being a B! to get chaos emeralds).

at the end of the day this game needs to either be fixed up so we can play it on windows and higher, placed in steam, and then there needs to be a remake of this game with todays technology so it can be as awesome as it was before.

generations shows their appreciation for old games...let's bring Sonic R back...but actually more playable and better yes?

Except it's not the same thing because sonic rides in a car and tails as well when in Sonic R sonic ACTUALLY RUNS and Tails uses his tails for propulsion and such.

also it's impossible to "beat" Sonic R in 30mins-1hr unless beating that game for you was just running the tracks once and not trying to collect all the characters and chaos emeralds.

it was good music...to each their own but that didn't make the game bad just the mechanics of the game made it flop. which is why I'd love a remake of the game which fixes old problems but gives us the same awesome experience as before. where sonic actually RUNS in a racing game and metal sonic uses his booster and such not them using vehicles when that seems stupid.

I dissagree I liked the music on it's own, athough it's not the sort of music that belongs in a racing game, let alone a Sonic game. Hell, might as well have thrown in a DIDO album and called it a night. Also, the game was terrible, just my opinion, though.

really it was just made as fan service and at the end of the day, sega didnt actually make sonic R, traverlers tales did they were kinda hit and miss with thier sonic games as sonic spinball and 3Dblast/flickies island was pretty good

very true the facts dont lie travelers tales had most to do with it. still i have to say i loved Sonic R's concept of "realistic" racing with sonic running and amy using a car and such. i loved the characters, music, and hell even some of the stages (especially the fact that searching for emeralds while racing felt like an adventure).

at the end of the day i just want this concept back with a new graphics engine, and of course little to no bugs this time.

The concept of the game was good, the execution was just a bit flawed. They shouldn't remake this game in HD or anything in my opinion. They should just make another Sonic racing game where they run on foot. Add in more sonic characters and give them some unique abilities and playstyles and you got yourself a great game that even has the same concept as Sonic R, but different execution. See the point here, concept and execution of the concept, thats what it's all about.

the way you say it you're making it sound like a "remake" is one of those "hd collections" sony is releasing of PS2 games for PS3...and that's not the case.

a REAL remake is FFVII and the tech demo of FFVII for the PS3 where graphics were updated completely (not some crappy HD texture pack), cinematics were changed but still the same (train scene but with a little more flair), etc.

point is a Remake would be fantastic for this game...not an HD update like what you're thinking.

if this game would be remade it would be:

the same characters (maybe add newer ones too)
the same concept (sonic runs, amy drives a car, tails using tales, metal sonic boosters, etc)
the same stages (maybe new ones too)
the same music (maybe new ones and remixes of old ones)

pretty much everything is the same except in a brand new engine and built from the ground up so all the bugs won't exist in this new build.

and that would make my day...neigh...my LIFE!

I remember this to be a great game and even recently purchased the hard to find Sonic Gems Collection just for Sonic R. While I enjoyed the game, it's easy to see why people don't look upon it favourably. The controls are extremely loose, the track design can often be highly sporadic and the music has not aged at all well.

But I suppose it's really for the nostalgia value that people like myself often enjoy this game and get caught up in it (even if it does take little under an hour to complete 100%). We love the gameplay. We love the stages. We love the music.

But anyway, if there were to be a Steam release, and it was the original (I'd rather not see an updated version like the FFVII clip mentioned), I would go for it. Purely for the nostalgia factor, as would many others would. It would also mean I could play it on my laptop in a somewhat legal fashion...

You don't know how much I want to play it on my new Windows 7. Fortunately I have an old XP that is still working.
