The detected configuration does not match your current hardware.
I get this critical error while trying to launch the game, but only when connected to a TV through HDMI. The game still boots regularly when it's just my computer.

Am I running it at a resolution that my TV / HDMI doesn't get along with or something? My computer is pretty old, so I do run it at a pretty low resolution to maintain ideal gameplay conditions.

You need to reconfigure the game after plugging it into the tv.

I did. Made no difference.

Been toying with various resolutions and so far the HIGHEST ONE is the only one that boots... Which is in no way playable on my machine. Has to be a way around that.

Edit: Seems to be only resolutions matching the TV's own native ratio, not necessarily resolution. All of those are still too big to run at an acceptable pace for me, though.

Second Edit: Scratch that, after I set it to the max resolution, it will now boot just fine under ANY resolution. Leave it to technology to have a solution that makes absolutely no sense.

I am having the exact opposite problem with mine. It works fine on my TV but when I switch over to PC it gives me that "configuration does not meet current hardware." Wish I could tell you how.

Sounds like a problem with the update/launcher rather than a problem with specific setups then. I guess you could try what I did, changing to random resolutions until one works and see if that "wakes it up".

I feel like for some reason the game just really wanted to see for itself that the max resolution wasn't going to cut it, and once it did it gave in.

Like I said, leave it to technology.

I got it to work only after setting it to 59 hz instead of 60.

Yeah, I tried that with a variety of other fixes for the game but it seriously doesn't want to run for some reason. I haven't had the chance to hook it up to the TV again yet, maybe it will work then.

About the "The detected configuration does not match your current hardware" issue, someone in the Sonic Retro forums managed to fix it like this:
Delete the config files in Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sonic generations, then rerun the config tool.

all you do is go to the config tool then save your settings and play

I had a similar problem, had to tweak the graphics card settings. There was two pieces of the same graphics card on the list to choose from, only separated by the number at the end. I chose the other and tada, fixed. Works on my TV now.

From what I noticed there is a slight lag after you save your settings when you run the configuration tool. Could be anywhere from 1-3 seconds. After you run the tool wait till you see the message that your settings synced with steam. Run the game and it should start without a problem.

Yeah, this has worked for me every time I've had this problem come up again.

Lazy, the best work around that I've found is to do what ezodagrom and Critical Crow have suggested above your comment.

"Delete the config files in Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sonic generations, then rerun the config tool."

I found that deleting only the "GraphicsConfig.cfg" file works just fine.

I am constantly switching between my computer monitor and my TV (which is hooked up to my second SLI video card) and I have to delete the .cfg file then run config and choose my monitor again every time I switch.

It's a pain the butt. But it works.
