WTF is wrong with the controls?
At random times, Sonic will get stuck in his side-flip animation over and over, even when I'm not pressing anything. I even checked my Joypad config, and it's not receving input. I even tried turning off the analog. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does it's almost unplayable. It's not even consistent.

Also in the casino night DLC, the flippers randomly spasm.

The same happens to me... I'm playing all happy and stuff, and then Sonic starts going left in a quick-step... I checked my joypad and it's everything fine with it, also, only happens with Sonic Generations. Also, I use a PC TWIN SHOCK, the PS controller usb adaptor, with a PS2 gamepad.
It happened to me to. I fixed easily. I use a PS3 controler and Motion Joy. On montion Joy Select Xbox 360 controller and the game auto configs to that. After that the side flip didn't happen anymore.

I am using a Logitech F310 and am having the same problem with sonic flipping to the *left. Would it be better to go get an XBOX controller or just return the game all together?

Well... I solved my problem. I'm not sure if I can tell about it here, but I just used a keyboard emulator for joypads.

That's almost the same thing I have

I don't want to use joy2key, I'm afraid that won't work right. What's motion joy? Is it compatible with ps2 controllers?

For me, it works just right, no delays.

I don't know much about Motion Joy, but, as far as I know, it's for ps3 gamepads only. Correct me, if I'm wrong, please.
Yeah I think it's a PS3 Gamepad problem. Work fine for Xbox game pads. Or if you say your PS3 gamepad is a 360.

I meant with the analog sticks or whatever too.

I'm using a ps2 gamepad. Not a ps3 gamepad.

you need a computer controller to fix the controls, you can use your xbox or ps3 controller also, just google how to connect the ps3 and xbox ones.

If only I had an Xbox 360...
Nobody's listening to me. I'm NOT using an xbox or ps3 controller

Like I said, it works fine for me. Since I don't know exactly why you're afraid of J2K, I'll explain what I did:
Well, since the game changes controllers when the respective start button on that controller is pressed, in the game's setup, I've set R3 to be the joypad's start button;
In J2K, I've set the buttons accordingly to the keyboard's keys in the game, obviously, so they'll match a/an (not sure about this) xbox 360 controller, with start button being Return/Enter key. Also, I've set the threshold to 50% for the left analog stick.
So, everything I need to do is avoid pressing R3, or else I'll get a non-stop quick-stepping Modern Sonic that has some crush on the left direction. If that happens, I press start, and the game will set the keyboard as the controller, which means Sonic will be a normal hedgehog... Ok, maybe not THAT normal, but he'll behave as he should.

BTW, I'm using version 5.0.1 of J2K.

Have faced this problem yesterday. So I can not pass through Seaside Hill Act 2 cause Sonic always trying to jump off the route. Maybe J2K is a kind of solution, but I didn't have this problem with my Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 a month ago!

Yeah, enkore, I played in a friend's comp some time ago with the same circunstances, using MY gamepad, with MY PC TWIN SHOCK, and it ran just fine, no random love for quick-stepping, no angry players, no J2K, just a regular, running, blue hedgehog doing his stuff right. Why can't my blue hedgehog be normal just like my friend's?),:
