Surely you would already know that from previous posts I've made. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Shadow, Sonic 2006 and the Dreamcast versions of the Sonic Adventure games are my favourtie 3D Sonics, alongside Sonic R PC as that was my first ever Sonic game.
If you are shocked to find someone who actually likes those awesome games (Sonic 2006 slightly less so only due to it's unfinished state and ocassional bugs), then what business do you have being on the internet?
There's always console gaming and handheld. I don't think you were really that shocked about my Sonic game preferences though so you're free to stay. Still looking forward to those remasters on PC and modern consoles. Maybe Sega could do ports of them on the Switch.
Ports or even Sonic 1 Steam style emulations of the Dreamcast versions could also be made for here and other platforms like Sega did with Mega Drive games, so long as they remove the grinding for Green Hill Zone and make it a bonus for beating all three stories, and make SA1 the 1998 version.
I can't say I quite get why the Dreamcast versions of the adventure games are specifically that good to you especially with how dated and terrible the DC version of the first adventure game is with it's wonky as hell character models. I do love the Adventure games for their gameplay, but no matter how you look at it the presentation has aged poorly, modern updates or not.
Unfortunately as far as 3D games go I can't pick one that I think is all good because for any given thing a 3D games does right, it's offset by everything else it does wrong. Is it any wonder why sega is using Classic Sonic as a crutch when you can say that about every 3D sonic game they make? Gvie me a 3D game that gives Adventure 1's gameplay and of level design style, presentation like Unleashed, and story like Sonic 3, and MAYBE I'll actually care enough about the blue blur again.
As is though my vote for best Sonic game goes to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles was a game so awesome, it couldn't be contained in one game!!!
My favorites would go:
1) Sonic 3 & Knuckles
2) Sonic 2
3) Either Sonic Rush or Sonic CD
Sonic just doesn't work that well in 3d no matter what they try.
I have to disagree. I love the 3D stages in games Like Unleashed, Clours and Generations. They manage to capture the sense of speed that sonic is known for in a way that 2D levels cant do. I love both types of levels to be honest but the 3D ones just feel more open and I enoy that much more.
Don't get me wrong, I like the 3d stages too but it seems like the newer games have that one random obstacle that always slows you down ( an enemy in an odd place, random pit in the middle of a city ). The older games had it too but it seems to happen more often than not and only in a place where you wanna boost and go FAST!!!
I think generations did minimize that as much as they could but if I could get a section where I could boost for like 30 seconds and take in the environment, I would be sold.
Of course I'm talking about the Sonic levels.
I really don't like the boost sections in Generations, precisely because I have no control whatsoever. He just bumps into walls and enemies and suffers nothing. In those moments my suspension of disbelief doesn't hold up (I can take a blue hedghehog running around, but I can't take the ludicrousness of these boost sections). Also I can't see ♥♥♥♥ because it's all a blur.
Sonic Adventure felt fast enough for me, and I had great control even when spindashing. It had the perfect blend between running and platforming. In generations, you don't. If you go the upper route, it's fast but not much control to it. If you go the lower route, there's a lot of platforming of the boring type.
