How to install HD Patch/Fix Black Screen+Sound Issue
You will need the files from the discussion here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/71250/discussions/0/864945179807501169/

Download the replacer patch (a fairly large file ~800 MB if I remember), and use 7-zip or WinRar to extract the file into the SADX directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure DX). It will ask you if it can replace files, so click "Yes to All"

Extract the SADXFE into any folder, and take all of the files from the SADXFE folder, and place them in the Sonic Adventure DX\system folder, again it will ask if it can replace files, say yes.

[OPTIONAL: REQUIRED IF USING X-BOX 360 GAMEPAD]
Extract the SADX360Controller, and rename it to "sonic adventure DX.exe" Replace the .EXE in the SADX directory with this. This will disable first person, but that's because the game misreads the X-Box gamepad's right stick, which would cause it to be stuck in first person otherwise.
[END OF OPTIONAL]

Extract the SADXTweaker, and run the program. Click "File > Open", and select your sonic adventure DX.exe. Go to window > Resolution Editor. Replace the resolution with your native screen resolution. (You must replace it with a proper resolution or the game will close on startup).

Go back to your SADX directory, and open "sonicDX.ini" Set the "screensize=#" to 0.

If you have any questions, please ask, I'll try to answer.

[NOTE] If you fail to install anything and it doesn't seem to start, uninstall SADX from steam (this won't remove it from your account), delete the SADX directory, and then reinstall it from steam.

A few warnings:

This is not fixing anything in the Steam version, this is replacing the Steam version with the original 2004 Sonic Adventure PC release, this will have these side effects:

- the game will run at 50 fps opposed to the Steam 60 fps
- I seem to be getting V-Sync issues, I believe it is due to the 50 fps
- the 12 game gear games from getting emblems will be added.
- the game can run in HD opposed to Steam's restricted 640x480
- It is impossible to map "Esc" to a gamepad, so to exit certain things it requies a keyboard
- If you attempt to Alt+Tab or switch out of the game, it will close.

Thanks a bunch for this! I was so excited when I got the game on sale (along with a bunch of other sonic games!) because I had really fond memories of this when I owned a dreamcast when I was a teen. Anyway, I digress, the point is I was really dissapointed when I couldn't chane the screen resolution and I thought maybe this would all be one big waste but I found your discussion and it saved the day. Now I get to enjoy nostalgia.. And bad voice acting... Oh nostalgia!

This is amazing!

Not only can i play this game now in HD and my native resolution but i can use my Xbox 360 controller on it! Not only that but i can also use the steam overlay as well. Fantastic!! :D

Thanks so much, man! This is great!

This is definitely awesome, but honestly, is there any way to switch out of the game without closing it? I'm trying to use Fusion's Chao Editor. Also, I did as stated with the controller portion, but my controller doesn't work. It's a normal, wired 360 controller.

EDIT: Nope, I guess I just didn't bother testing it in the actual game, it does work there. Only issue is the X button does nothing, A button is Spin Dash, B button is jump, and Y is also Spin Dash. How would I edit my bindings?

in-game, go to the pause menu and go to edit pad. you'll be able to change the bindings there. have fun. :3

is there anyway to make it run in windowed mode?

Edit:
Nevermind :3 I've figured it out while playing with the SonicDX.ini
you change Screen=1 to =0

Everything worked perfectly, (THANKS BTW) but the adjusted native resolution using the tweaker does not work in full screen. I Just use the standard res in full screen. Is there any way to fix that?

Edit: Also, why are the graphics (and this game in general) so annoyingly different??

will this fix the problem if you have a black screen with no sounds?
