Black Screen + Sound??
I just bought this game yesterday, but when I try to play it I get a black screen. If I wait, the sound for the menu plays, so it's just a visual issue. I tried verifying integrity of the game cache, and it constantly says that 1 item is messed up and that the the file will be fixed, but nothing ever happens. I have windows 8 and nVIDIA GeForce 650M if that helps

yep getting it too. I'm running on Samsung Ultrabook 9 with Win8 (someone earlier said win8 may be the issue but I don't get how that'd be). Going to try it on my desktop in a bit

Damn, sounds like a windows 8 problem. Well hopefully SEGA releases a patch soon...

Just bought it. Same exact problem, no video whatsoever.

I don't know if you can do the same for an ATI GPU, I have Nvidia. But what I did was go to the Nvidia control panel, add this game, and set it to use the Nvidia graphics card instead of integrated graphics card. If you have an intel core processor, it is likely that the game wanted to use the integrated graphics card instead of the actual graphics card.
I also believe that if you go to the game's folder on Windows 8 and right click on the .exe, then you will find a submenu that says "Run with graphics processor", You can choose to use your GPU instead of the integrated graphics card. However, I'm not sure if it's just my computer or if it works with anyone else's.

THANK YOU! That worked! I couldn't add the game to the NVidia control panel (no idea how), but when i went into program files x86/steam/steamapps/common/sonic adventure DX, right clicked the exeand opened with NVIDIA, it worked! :D

What if you have to work with an integrated card?

Okay, I'm using Windows 8 and I can't find the controls to do any of that. Anyone got any suggestions or some kind of fix for this?

Sorry, forgot to go into more detail. I'm running Windows 8 with a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 card. Any idea how I can fix this? It says my drivers are up to date and I'm able to play Sonic Adventure 2 with no problem.

Sounds like it doesn't work with integrated cards. My Laptop PC has both an integrated graphics (Intel HD 4000) AND a high-end dedicated graphics card (Nvidia geforce GTX 660M). I had to switch mine from the integrated graphics to the dedicated graphics for this to work.

The nvidia control panel can be accessed by clicking on the small nvidia icon at the bottom right tray of the screen. You can also access it in the Hardware and Sound menu in the system control panel. The nvidia control panel is useful in that you can set games to run on either intel HD or nvidia gpu automatically every time you launch it.

For some reason I couldn't control individual games in my nVIDIA panel. It allowed me to control certain apps, but only about 10.
And yea, whenever I try to run it with the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 it does the error. It only works with the nVIDIA GTX 650M for me.

Have you tried clicking the "Add" button and looking for the other apps you want to control?

This was awesome advice, thanks, I got my copy up and running now. Just as a heads up I noticed a few posts saying this may be a windows 8 issue, but I am running 7 and ran into the same problem.
