Alright, confession time: I'm using a Mac, and have a wrapper that is making the game run at all. I did buy this game legitimately though (3 times to be precise)
Now then, do I like this game? Yes. would I recommend it to my friends? Yes. But the best way to describe this game is that it's akin to an uncut gem; still beautiful to look at, sure, but there is so much potential that's not quite realized. The game was clearly made as an "in between game," something that can keep the developers busy while the think-tank works on the next big project.
That said, this game is one of my favorites, and I have a short list of favorites. My most love aspect is the combat, as it's not the "choose an action" type from KotOR 1, but neither is it the "Pause and command" type from Mass Effect. It's more free flowing and it gives me the feeling of being a wushu master, or in this case, the Spirit Monk, and I love how each style can flow so smoothly into each other. Some better than others, but finding the best combo for you is part of the fun.
One major gripe for me though is that, for the sake of time, the story was made FAR to predictable. Granted, I still felt the happiness and sadness that I was supposed to feel, but there was always that underlying thought that I knew it was going to happen...but then it makes up for it somewhat with the unpredictable side quests, so it's a little for given.
Overall, I love the game, and if anyone that has a Mac wants to play this, here's what you do.
1. Buy the game. Doesn't mater from where, but this is Steam, so lets say from here ;)
2. Go to Paulthetall.com,
and find the games wrapper. No, you can't buy from him.
3. Fallow his instructions. He outlines what to do on the page, and with a youtube video, so both should help.
4. Download Direct X 9 when prompted. The game MUST have this or IT WILL NOT RUN! Other games need this to, so it's no real loss anyway.
5. Make sure to use a two button mouse. I know from experience that the Apple Magic Mouse will work with the game, but the right mouse function does not work, and trust me, I was able to make the game a lot easier by just switching mouses. (mice?)
6.1 You may need to turn down the graphics a bit, but I've found that just turing the shadows off is enough for the overworld if you still want to have some nice looking polygons.
6.2 To play the SHMUP portions of the game more effectually, but still have some nice graphics , just turn down the graphics during those sections to zero and it'll play like butter-nice and smooth. Then, when thats done, just turn them all back on again (remembering to leave shadows off of coarse.)
This has helped my gameplay immensely and I hope I just made you Mac users happier by showing you the way to play this uncut gem.
