Its fairly complex, and deep.

Especially designing military ships, however, tooltips do a good job explaining the various ways your ship can die: Reverse inductors can cause a power failure, and blow up certain reactors.

Same thing can happen with ships with poor crew excesses.

Using one big part is very efficient in civilian ships, but this tend to get military ships blown up: Ships that use large arrays of cheap, small parts are less likely to fail from a random shell, and parts farther from the edge are less likely to be killed by a chance explosive, or flack.

Large ships can afford to have fewer bulkheads, more shields, a little more armor, and a larger variety of small scale weapons.

Small ships usually want bigger scale weapons (To pierce large ship armor.... If not using muon guns,) mounted on external mounts.

And having a ship that scans fallen enemy craft is VITAL to finding out how it is easiest to kill them.

Thanks this may help me get into it now, something I was hoping to do a long time ago

Okay, question about the analysis system : I made a small fleet (10-11 ships) of small fighters (0.5 hull), each of them having nothing but 3 analysers. Will it work? Or am I going sending my crew to a painful, horrible, horrifying, gruesome and useless death in space?
Dr. Tran Jul 26, 2013 @ 6:15pm
If they don't have a life support the crew will die. You should recieve a warning about that though when designing the ship.

I know, but I mean...
I keep throwing those analysers at the enemy ship, but nothing happens. What am I missing?

I think the analysers only work if you actually defeat the enemy ship and leave it lifeless, then you can scan it. Idk for sure though.

Analyzers can 'capture' live designs. If you're not getting the blueprint it's likely the analyzers you have equipped have a very low chance of capturing a design. If that is the case, increasing the size of the analyzer subsystem(s) in your blueprint will increase their %-chance to 'hit' wit the Analysis effect.

When you've captured the enemy design, it'll show up in your blueprints list. That is all Analyzers do, to be clear.

Well, my analyzers had 13% chance of capturing the enemy design. But there was 30 ships with said analyzers, so...

But I resolved the problem. As chronoterror said, the ships just had to be "stunned".

Ah, I misread your problem then. Yes, they do required the ship to be disabled to be able to analyze a blueprint.

Lots of help is out there..
I looked on youtube for videos… Very useful for newbies
Let try star ruler A

Trouble with being overrun in early game? see LadenSwallow « Reply #13 on: January 14, 2013, 08:14:40 AM » for current postings:

And saving the Best-For-Last for both the new and the serious player... read SanderBuruma's brilliant guide, every word is precise and nuanced... with the screen shots a newby needs... his preparations for the massive late game development warn of problems to come... his recommendations for racial characteristics are subtle and thought provoking and also appear to close the door on a potential late game-breaking exploit. IMHO anyone who can find and beat Sander on multiplayer wins their black belt in Star Ruler...

here is Sander's Rar file * Script Data.rar (1081.58 kB - downloaded 1371 times.);topic=5064.0;attach=2794
See Sandar’s, "rar file with a pdf file (which is the guide) and 3 folders which contain my designs, queues and my race (The Human Race). The guide is still new and fresh and I believe just about every Star Ruler player who wants to play effectively should at least follow it once."

This game is way more complex than I gave it credit for at first glance. I prefer to learn my grand strategy games as I play but it looks like I'm gonna have to play the tutorial for this one, lol.

wait till you get into it and start evaporating enemy planets. Much more fun than capturing.
As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best 4X games ever made and i've been computer gaming for 30 years.
OH.. and nobody really wants the AI ship designs..they stink.

Well, I tried.
I still don't really understand the logic.

My ships' bridges are always instantly destroyed by enemy fire, I manage to have a decent economy but always get military outclassed, and the AI is really passive.
I think I'm doing it wrong.
Magron Apr 8, 2014 @ 1:39pm
you need to concentrate on research. The beginning techs are really weak.
I found experimenting with ship designs a lot of fun. Be sure you aren't running out of fuel or energy.. if you don't pay close attention to the warnings in the design window this can be a problem.
