Is it just me, or...
Is Arma really, really bad? Other than starting at level 1, I mean -- if anything, I'm rather dramatically overgearing her for the lower areas I'm sending her into. This just feels awful from a mechanical standpoint. Slow, glitchy and randomly misses floating targets, an attack almost as slow as Caillou's, pathetic damage, gets freely run over by blue tentacles and bees, doesn't even have a decent special to react to her weak points.

I'm giving her any parts I can find, really. The vendor ones, Null Parts, +15 Crisis, the works. The Null Parts are the only one that can kill things without leaving herself too hideously open, and even then it feels like I'm trying to staff things to death with Caillou. Is there a weapon I should be looking out for (other than Omega of course, because it's going to be a long time until I get that)?

I mean, I was underwhelmed by Griff after the trouble to get his True Card, but at least his main attack was really good. This just feels all-around awful.

I like Arma personally (in spite of getting her at level 1 more or less at the end of the game, by which time whoever you used up to then is probably level 90+), though it is true many of her weapons are kind of lousy.

For the early floors, the Gatling Unit worked fine in my experience (it's one of the vendor ones; Null Parts are better though) with its ability to hit everything in front of you. Sure, the damage is awful, but regular enemies won't be able to hit you until you run out of ammo. For bosses, the Drill Arm (also one of the vendor ones, I think) can be very useful early on, as it'll stun-lock most of them until you run out of ammo, so they just drop dead without fighting back (this won't work on many later bosses). The Hammer Arm is also pretty useful if you like micro-managing things, as you can summon up to six balls to orbit around you (and shoot balls past six forward) to protect you from enemies. Also, switching weapons after summong the Hammer Arm balls will lead to their using the attack stat of the new weapon, so can switch to something higher level for more hammer damage.

As for the non-vendor ones, the Gumball Unit is kind of fun, as it sprays basically the whole area in front of you and costs very little ammo per shot, though won't do much damage. The Messiah Unit is the attack Arma uses in her boss fight with the big explosion (it does a lot of damage, but has a long animation and is hard to actually hit with), the Gravity Cannon is more or less the Crisis Cannon but does more damage, and the Phalanx Cannon is a higher damage version of the Gattling Unit with homing bullets.

Of course the Omega Cannon is basically point and win, but it is as you said a pain to get. Getting the rest is kind of random too unfortunately...most of them come from chests in either Lapis, Crystal Nightmare or both. Since you said you didn't like the Crisis Cannon, best recommendation would probably be the Phalanx Cannon (from Crystal Nightmare chests), can just spray it forward and it hits everything for decent damage. Though you may as well just clear Crystal Nightmare boss rush with whoever you normally use for a Pandora Unit (it uses random attacks...I didn't find it useful), then farm wisps to fuse an Omega Cannon. Or just accept that you don't like Arma.

I have the Gumball (I think I picked it up on a Nightmare run). It struck me as even worse than Null. I might try to find Phalanx -- hopefully that'll at least not make her bee food and not cripple her quite so badly when things move right before I fire.

If I somehow score a Pandora, I already have the materials for Omega. But by that point it's more a matter of not having much left for Arma to be doing.

I dunno, all the other characters I can at least find a use for and can play them comfortably, even the ones I had trouble with at first (Caillou, Charme). Arma's pretty much the only one that I feel like I'm still doing something really wrong, but she's also the only one that every time I start analyzing what I'm doing it comes down to "no, she really doesn't have any way to handle that".

Yeah I'm not a fan Arma; carrying around multiple weapons for multiple enemy types is a hassle, her lack of a dash is obnoxious, reloading is a death sentence if a bunch of monsters are closing in (especially tentacle-turds in the crystal nightmare), and lastly... she doesn't look like she has feet. Personally though I think Griff is anything but underwhelming...he has the only charge attack which does decent damage, his dash gives him a large window of invincibility and lets him pass through enemies, and his ability to heal himself with vampiric vortex pretty much guarentees you won't have to worry about running out of health if you carry some meditation rings around. It also makes boss fights with minions a piece of cake...use vampiric vortex to draw them all together, then use demon soul and shred them all at once. Just saying, in my experience he is really awesome lol.

But I definitely agree on Arma, she is just terrible in my opinion. Her omega cannon is okay when enemies don't just dodge it or the projectiles don't hit the walls... but it also is just boring to use...I much prefer a more active character. The other attacks she has from different weapons seem fairly weak to me, so in the end she just doesn't feel like a very strong adventurer in my experience....which sucks, since she is the last one you unlock and she seemed like she would be awesome at first.

I do kinda like Arma. But now that I think about it, that's mainly because of the Omega Cannon. I mean, what's not to like about homing missiles that can kill almost everything in one or two hits? I've tried several characters, but Arma is only one I can comfortably stroll through Crystal Nightmare with. (except, of course, when this happens)

How does Arma handle against the ropers (tentacle-turds) though? I would think they would move too fast for her Omega Cannon to hit, especially the blue ones with yellow tentacles, and very especially if it is a faster enemies floor. It just seems like that would end very badly since Arma doesn't seem to have any really good close range weapons and doesn't have a sprint or dash attack, nor something along the lines of Tielle's Cuterage! to stop anything in its tracks.

Ropers are awful, that's true, but that's true no matter which character you use. That said, they also have a terrible turn-rate, so you can make them circle around you if you approach them from the right angle. The Omega Cannon actually works very well as a close-range weapon too, but there is a catch: since the beams shoot out from the back, you need to turn your back to the enemy you want to hit.

Of course, if you find yourself besieged by 6 fast ropers, that's gonna be tricky. But I have managed plenty of times.

With multiple beams, the Omega Cannon practically is cuterage :). And as said, regular enemies tend to die in one or two hits. I do miss a dash though.

Are you thinking of Starshot Arrow? That's Tielle's beam attack. Cuterage! paralyzes almost everything on screen and seriously amps up her charging speed, which makes ropers a total non issue. She's the only character who I can honestly say I have never had any roper incidents with. Either way though, maybe I'll level up Arma a little more and give her another chance. Plus, I frogging finally got the stuff I needed to make rocket boots so that might boost my opinion of her too lol

Argh. Yeah, sorry, my mistake. It's been a while since I did CN runs ^_^;;. I hardly used cuterage in regular floors for fear of running out, which explains why I'm not using her much. If you can cuterage with abandon, Tielle will work out fine, I agree.

And nice job getting the rocket boots. I'm still looking for those items.

Okay my opinion is officially revised; Arma is pretty badass after leveling her up a bit and giving her another chance. Also, her lack of a dash is no longer an issue....she literally walks as fast as Charme sprints o.O

Caillou laughs disparagingly at your difficulties.

Okay, I fused up a Chaos Unit for her. She's still pretty bad, but at least it can consistently hit things.

I also found a Phalanx Cannon from a Nightmare boss rush. It feels like Sparkburst with half the spread, a fifth of the power (if that), I still have to drain most of the clip into things before they die, and the auto-aim messes with holding back tentacles from different directions. I'm honestly not sure if it's a step up from Chaos Unit.

Yeah the Phalanx isn't particularly powerful. Kinda fun, but not something I'd rely on for multiple enemies. Main thing I use it for is destroying boxes in the Tielle boss fight...and for that purpose you'd be better off with the gatling unit because the auto aim of the Phalanx can be a hindrance there....reason I use the Phalanx instead is Arma bought it from me and carries it around by default now.

For Arma, it's pretty much all about the Omega Cannon. It wasn't until I got the Omega Cannon and Rocket Boots that my opinion of her changed....she's awesome with them, but without them I wouldn't even bother with her.
Waypoint 29 гру 2013 о 0:17
I finally got a Pandora to drop and made a +15 Omega (with Rocket Boots). I even had a weapon order lined up for her the day after I crafted it, and sold it to her so she doesn't have to borrow it from me.

I'm sorry, but she's still really bad. I mean, I finished a Nightmare Boss Rush with her, but that was almost entirely on the momentum of Rocket Boots and kiting olympics I could've done with almost any other character (I think the only one I haven't done it with out of boredom while farming rank 5 ingredients is Elan). Omega feels like a slower, weaker Sparkburst that misses all the time and aims at the wrong things.

So yeah. I now have all the Parts in the encyclopedia, and every single one of them without exception is either embarrassingly weak or too unwieldy to use without seriously risking horrible death.
