Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Not bad, but not good either
I liked this game that it was different and had a very different approach from other games. The biggest problem with the game is that you don't really feel like you are running an item shop. There is really no real goal to the game. In most RPG games you use the item shops to help you beat the next boss to advance the story, but in this game you run the item shop to help yourself beat the next boss to advance a story that isn't there if you get my jist.

I don't know, I was satisfied with the story of a little girl stuck with her fathers debt to pay off. Pretty clear goals, and a lot of stuffing in-between with the characters you meet along the way. I suppose I see what you mean though.
And here I'm playing just because of those little girls o.o
What ever floats your boat I guess you either like it or you don't just a mather of taste.
What's the goal to operating any store? Making money! So doesn't Recettear do that really well?

True, but its just way too ez to make money. Not even a worthwhile goal.

All I am saying is that from other rpgs that you play you don't see this item shop fitting into those games, which is what I thought would have been cool once I originally bought it.
I don't know that making money is the only goal. I mean, you can make it hand over fist, so it's not a challenge. I find full exploration fo the dungeons, leveling adventurers, and filling the encyclopedia to be more of a challenge, as are finding allt he plot points as the unfold around the NPCs. It's all about personal taste, though. THe item shop is central to all of that, of course, but for me it's not The main point. I like that flexibility about the game. "Oh, weapons, armor, and precious metal all down? Better go run through another tier of Obsidian!" "Oh, bored with dungeons. Sell all the things!" It's nice for my play style.
From what I've read there is a plot that unlocks as you keep doing and completing dungeons. It apparently involves demons and the company that owns the loan that has to be paid off. Having not completed this, I'm not 100% sure on that!
